I actually caught a suwanee bass on the sante fe river. It looked a lot like my idea of what a smallmouth looks like.It was kind of brown and wieghed around 2 pounds. It fought like a 4 pound lm.They are a distinct sub specie of a largemouth I think.?

catching a 4lb+ smallmouth on medium light spinning tackle will blow your mind!

It's not close by but if you ever get the chance come on up to Lake St Clair in mid to early May and you will have your fill of smallmouth and plan a return trip ;)

Yes not far from Detroit. But you could catch stringers like this. You just can't keep them in May. Catch and release then.
