poppin frog line type

Featured Replies

i can't seem to find an answer to fit my needs so i decided to narrow it down a little. I fish ponds with little to no vegetation on the water and i usually fish poppin style frogs and baits (EX poppin pad crasher and Spittin wa) can i get away with using monofilament??? if so what pound test!

You can, but I'd go with 15-20 to handle the impact of setting the hook. Heavy braid that's normally used isn't just for the heavy cover, it's for pushing 1 or 2 large hooks through a potentially very hard part of a bass' mouth. I don't fish them in real heavy cover either and still use 50lb braid.

For open water applications, 40 lb braid  will suit your HB frog fishing just fine.

This. Hook setting power is the primary reason I prefer braid for frog fishing. The ability to cut vegetation is icing.

I'm in agreement with the braid guys above. It could be done with mono, but I think your results would be much better with braid.

No vegetation?  I use 15 lb PP slick 8 personally.  It's what I fish non heavy stuff topwater with.  Works great. and your reel will hold a ton of it.
