Multi Purpose Rods for Co-angler

Featured Replies

Hey guys, this will be my first year fishing tournaments and I will be doing so as a co-angler. I know we are limited to 5 maybe 6 rods so I want to have well rounded rods that can be used in a multitude of situations. I have a few rods that I think would be good multipurpose setups but wanted your guys input on this. What is everyone using to cover most situations as a co-angler? heres a few of what I plan on using:

7'6" cabelas tournament zx heavy flipping stick with Lews Tournament MB 8.3:1 reel with 20lb fluro (would change out to braid if tournament was a vegatation lake), I plan on using this for flipping mostly since shallow water is my strong suit. This is one of the rods that I dont really know what else I would use for other than flipping. Any insight into this would be appreciated

7' Medium heavy Cabelas Tourney Trail spinning rod with tournament zx spinning reel 10lb braid with 8lb fluro leader, This is pretty much anything finesse, wacky rig, ned rig, weightless senko and fluke, dropshot

7'3" cabelas tournament zx heavy frog rod with Diawa Tatula 6.3:1, This is my favorite rod and the one I find has the most uses 20lb fluro. I primarly bought this for swim jig and soft swimbait fishing but figure I can use it for frogs and for worm and jig fishing in lighter cover and offshore

7' med heavy abu garcia veritas casting rod with 6.3:1:1 shimano Curado200I 15lb mono This is for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits I was also thinking I could use this for some larger crankbaits and lipless Crankbaits

6'6" Med Heavy Cabelas Prodigy with 6.3:1 Diawa Tatula 12lb mono This isnt really my favorite rod and one that I kind of just threw in the mix. I figure I could use this for topwater, jerkbaits, and lighter crankbaits such as shad raps

Any Insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Do you guys think that this lineup will serve me well. Any changes in rod reel ratio line you would make? I know this is alot but just want to make sure I can face whatever kind of water/boater I am faced with. Thanks for all the help guys!

I also forgot to add I have another 7'mh casting rod with BPS pro qualifer in 7.3:1 that I use for lighter worms and jigs in lighter cover that I could throw in the mix but dont know what I would take out to put it in the line up. Thanks for the help guys

I have the okuma tcs (tournament concept series) and they serve me will. Most of the rods are for multiple applications. I have the flipping/jig, crank/jerkbait, and the APC (all purpose concept I think). It's what they were designed for.

make it simple and leave out the brands

medium fast action spinning rod

medium fast action bait casting

medium heavy fast action casting

heavy fast action casting

medium action crankbait rod

medium heavy crankbait rod

those six rods can cover just about every way you can think to fish. reel speeds an what line is on the reel is up to you an relates to the way you fish.An anougher tip with your rods be shure to buy rod gloves an rod ties for your rods it makes life so much easier just be shure you have a place to put them weil on the boat an they WILL fly off a rod an disapear into the lake.
