Has anyone tried the newest models of the St. Croix Mojo Bass line?

Apparently they're built on the same blank as the tournament legend  Avid now.  I held one in my hand at Bass Pro and they're definitely lighter than past models...

Any insight into how they handle etc would be appreciated.

It's the same blank material as the avid (scIII), not the ltb(scIV). I've heard good things though. I want to check them out, might end up buying one.

It's not the same blank the avid is made with, just the same material. 

I have been wondering about this too. I haven't heard anyone confirm that they are built on the same blank. I know they are built with the same material(scIII) but my understanding is that there is more to a rod blank than the type of carbon that is used such as scrim, tapers and resins among other variables.

 

There are a couple of different companies that use 40ton Toray blanks but have vastly different performance.

Perhaps the St. Croix rep I spoke to as Bass Pro was misinformed, but he told me they're built on the same exact blank!

Wait... A St. Croix rep told you the new Mojo Bass and the Legend Tournament rods are built on the exact same blank?  Or did you mean a BPS employee told you that?

It was a St. Croix rep who was on site demoing rods.  He mentioned that the avid and the mojo are the same blank.  I misspoke in my original post.

How is the balance on the new mojo? I had one of the old ones and it felt tip heavy to me. I didn't like the balance.

I also thought the old Mojo felt tip heavy which is why I never purchased one.

 

They feel completely different now and much more balanced.

Thanks I was hoping so because other than that I liked the rod.

Are they still made in Mexico?

They are definitely not the same blank as the avid. Thats like saying the rage was built with the same blank as the Avid. The new mojo rod blanks are made in mexico. If they were built on the same blanks as the avids then the lengths, power, and actions would be the same which they aren't. They are just using the same sclll material that the avids are made with to make the blanks. They look like great rods though, I'll definitely be buying a few.

I think you're getting too caught up in semantics.  St croix claims their mexico factory is identical to their Park Falls factory.  if they are using the same material SCIII in both rods, it is going to be similar, whether or not "blank" is the correct term.  if you look the Rage and Mojo Bass rods have identical actions to the LTB rods even though they use a different material.

The new rod is definitely lighter and more balanced than the previous generation. If St. Croix would ever decide to cover up the threads above the locking nut I'd be tempted to buy one. I handled the 7' medium against the previous gen. model recently and I like the new one a lot better. The guide train was very straight and the build quality was excellent. 

the rage rod is the same same blank as the avid.  Skip the new mojo and buy a discontinued rage.  your welcome.

Just because it says ScIII doesn't mean it's "the same blank". The scrim, resin, and mandrel are all different from the Avid. That's like saying the Legend Elite and Legend Xtreme use the same blank as they are both SCV. Both utilize similar materials but aren't the same blank. Little bit of research never hurt.

A little bit of knowledge sometimes is a bad thing.  Its the same blank. period.  the elite and extreme are also the same other than handle and paint.

So, according you, you're saying the new Mojo and the current Avid are the same?

It is not the same blank. Just because you say period doesn't make you correct. If the avid and rage blanks are the same then show me a 7'1" medium fast avid spinning rod.

You really think a 7'1" rage rod is a completely different blank than a 7'0" avid blank.  Good Grief. Thats like saying a 2 liter bottle of pepsi is a different pop than a 12 ounce can.
