Conceal carry permit holders no longer need background check

Featured Replies

A new law passed in the state of Alabama will allow those who have a conceal carry permit to no longer have to undergo a background check when purchasing a firearm. I guess this will help cut down some of the paper work gun shops have to do. Thoughts?

makes sense to me but pardon my ignorance here, if you have a CCP and are convicted of a crime that would normally not allow you to have a CCP, does that automatically null and void the CCP?

Where as some states are considering ways to make purchasing firearms even more challenging & time consuming, The Yellow Hammer State puts in an Express Lane for CCP holders ~ Congrats

Kudos to the Great State of Alabama.  It only makes sense though, if you can pass a CCw background check it should be no problem passing when getting a gun. In GA if you have CCW you will automatically lose it under certain circumstances, like having a restraining order placed against you etc...

I think its a good idea. If I can be issued a CCW then there should be no reason that a background check be run.

We already have something very similar here in Michigan.  If you have a CPL you do not have to call in to the government for the background check.  You still have to fill out the paperwork and the FFL still has to keep it on file, but it cuts down on the wait time.  The assumption is that you already have had the background check and unless you are convicted of something you will be ok.  If you are convicted or have a PPO placed on you, you lose your CPL license.

It's been that way in TX forever.  I show my CHL, fill out some paperwork and off I go.

No permit needed in Kansas either for concealed or open carry. Thankfully we don't have too many people around that just need the extra attention that open carry brings.
