spinning reel decision

Featured Replies

i'm looking to buy a new spinning reel, and have it narrowed down to lews team gold , lews pro speed spin , or abu garcia revo s (not sx).....i can get all three close enough in price , so that's not a factor ...team gold is lightest, which does matter - all boast great drags and smooth , strong , durable....now i need personal experience from those who know them well

I searched for info on many forums on the Lews spinners and didn't receive any positive feedback.  I have a Revo Inshore that has been rugged, smooth and caught me many big fish without a hiccup.

wtfish gives high praise to the gold

I'm not a fan at all of Lew's spinning reels even though I do like some of their higher end baitcasters. I have owned an S in the past and currently own an STX. I would definitely go with the Revo if I had to pick between the two without hesitation.

I'd put the Pflueger supreme on your short list

i checked into it , but saw some comments on it about it flexing ... i have three presidents that were always reliable , but don't use as much as i used to. they still make it into the boat often

Agreed. I've gone almost completely that direction with all my spinning reels now minus my one Stradic CI4. Hard to spend the money on another reel when you get so much for the price of a President.

Funny how that works.  I own (2.167*6) Fishing, Diawa, Shimano, Abu Garcia, Lews, and BPS casting reels, but when it came to spinning reels I started with a Pflueger President.  Except for an Abu Revo SX. they're all Pflugers (haven't sprung for a Patriarch yet.).  They're light, smooth, and just feel good on whatever rod I put them under.

I am on team pflueger as well. Ive never noticed my supremes flexing at all.

I agree with the pflueger as well.  Hell I use walmart president models and they honestly do great!!

Couple supremes in the flea market right now. Ya never know the guy might be flexible on the price too.

agree with pflueger - i have three presidents, and also think highly of them...

I've used the Revo S before and was fairly impressed with it. I've also heard a lot of good things about the Pflueger's but have yet to use one. It'd be down to those two if I were making the decision.

I saw a $20 rebate for Pflueger reels over $99 on a couple websites.

thanks....i'll check that out - scoring a good deal helps a bunch in these decisions !!

I would have to jump on with everybody else Lews makes good baitcasters but I don't know about there spinning reels. I also own 3 Pflueger Presidents ( 1 on my catfish rod, 1 on my finesse bass rod, and 1 on my UL rod for perch and bluegill) you just can't beat them. The only other reel I would suggest looking at is the Mitchell 300 pro but I believe they are the same price I would choose Pflueger but you can't really go wrong with either of those 2
