Best bass fishing lure for this time of year

Featured Replies

What are some goos fishing lures for this time of year for bass fishing?

Depends where you're living

Hmmm im guessing its till cold there. Id go with a jerkbait or wacky rig stick bait. Something with good presentation that you can fish slowly. Find a good cadence with the jerkbait. Really let that fish wait before you jerk it again. When you want to jerk it, wait 5 seconds more. The fish love that.

Jerkbait, lipless crank, swimbait, bladed and non-bladed jig.  Those are my best producers from the end of march thru april up in NNY.

The one tied on the end of my rod & no you can't use it!

Same lures I use the rest of the year just in different locations!

Jerkbaits & lipless cranks.

There is never such thing as the best bait because it is all preference. But if you live in NY and I'm guessing it is cold, finsese fish finesse fish finsese fish! Also slow moving Rattle Trap should work in your area right now.

  1. Skip tubes, Bitsy Bug Jigs, Underspins...Road runners, grubs...often they are tight to cover or in wood which warms fist, so skipping back to undercut banks in trees is often necessary and tubes, small jigs, and compact baits skip well or any bait that falls slow and can be fished at all depths and work well slow...So many good articles on this site for cold water fishing...Guys do well with rattle traps as mentioned, and Swim Jigs etc...Suspending Jerkbaits are always a good options, but don't forget a simple Lizard or 4-6" ribbon Tail or curly tail worm on a split shot rig...

The water is still pretty cold around here.  I have been using jigs, lipless baits, and t-rigged craws mostly.

Is there an actual thermometer that you can easily put on and remove to fishing line to check the temp of the water or is it just your basic pool thermometer?

Water cold and very stained and muddy in CT. I use X raps and flat raps this time of year. Also shakey head with a floating lure like a zman worm, weightless fluke, or keitech run super slow. Jackall super cross tail bluegill on a drop shot or even wacky.

Problem is I'm too antsy in my pantsy and my heart is racing I realize I'm burning my lures since I haven't fished in a couple months. Every few casts I have to tell myself to slow down on any technique after ice out.
