Help picking Heavy Cover Rod

Featured Replies

About to add another Rod to the Arsenal. Looking for a Heavy/fast Rod between 7'-7'3ish

I have really been eyeballing the No8 blackout. But kinda want to get something closer to the $50 mark.

Any suggestions fellas?

The first option that comes to mind is Abu Vengeance; looks like there's a 7'6" heavy for $60. I have the feeling some of your other options will be rods listed as Medium heavy, even if they're pretty stout. Maybe an MH version of the vengeance, or a MH berkley lightning rod shock is sort of in the ballpark?

I have a blackout, MH spinning. Nice rod, but I ordered online and had to return the first one they sent because of crooked guides. I hear that's actually not an uncommon problem.

Also consider TW will have a 15% off sale for memorial day, so you may be able to get a good deal on something better.

Catt, this site has convinced me I need to visit an Academy next time I find myself down south! None up here, but tons of folks on BR recommend the H2O baits and gear!

Thoughts on the daiwa aird X?

Held one in the store, seemed like a good rod. Most people looking for a budget item are concerned more about avoiding the worst, rather than wanting the best. I don't have any idea what the best is around the $50 price point. But I'm pretty confident none of the ones mentioned in this thread are the worst.

Also they do make a 7'6" Heavy Berkley Shock. I have owned two of them and they get the job done without breaking the bank. I was able to locate both of mine from Dunham Sports for under $40 each. Also some Wal Mart locations have had the Falcon Jason Christie series rods on clearance. I picked up a 7'3" Heavy for $50 locally and its a very nice rod.

I just seen one at my local wal mart last night tucked away. Thing is no one that worked there could get it priced for me. It had no barcode on it and they told me I would have to try another location. I might go back up there and show them this post haha!

When it comes to Walmart the best thing you can do is go to walmart period com.  I know my local store has next to nothing in fishing.  The next further one away has a bit more, but not like what some stores have.  I got a couple $176 rods for less than $100 off period com.

I have 9 of their rods, you won't be disappointed.
