Rod and reel selling questions

Featured Replies

The other day I was going through all of my fishing gear and noticed that I have more rods and reels than necessary. After going through them I've decided that I would like to let go 10 rods and 9 reels and plan on doing so though the flea market here. However this is my first time selling items on here so I have some questions. Also I'm not even sure if this is the right place for this post. First question, since all of my rods and reels were well taken care of, in general how much should I be asking compared to the brand new prices? Another question is about shipping; do places like UPS or Fedex carry those cardboard tubes that you get from TW?

Scan the classifieds to get an idea of what people are listing their used rods and reels for. I don't think you can get the cardboard tubes from a shipping company, but most people will want you to ship them in PVC to prevent any damage and it will also save you from having to deal with the shipping company to get reimbursed if one does get damaged. You can figure the cost of shipping in a PVC tube into your asking price.

Assuming they are at least 9/10, 60% of list is what you might expect delivered (includes packaging and shipping).

Some specialty items can trade much higher. As an example my last sale was a Curado 200E7, supertuned. That sold for $175 delivered.

I'd probably try to sell them on sites with a dedicated fishing focus, or on E-Bay where a lot of fisherman shop.  I think you're likely to get your target audience and better selling prices that way.

Craigslist is an option as well.

1. you can always check the "sold listings" over on e-bay and find out what recent ones have sold for just for an idea...

2. read this post and then go buy you some PVC pipe:
