Squarebill reel

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a reel that can cast lighter squarebills. What are some good options from Daiwa or shimano?

I have used a shimano curado 51e for that and it worked very well

If you have an academy sports in your area you will not go wrong with the h20 express mettle reel. I've sold most of my higher end baitcasters and went to these reels

How about a 6.3 ratio Shimano Citica with upgraded spool bearings from HP Bearings.

This will give you excellent value and performance. The bearing upgrade will help with those lighter baits, especially if you keep them clean and lightly oiled.

You don't need to spend a ton on a reaction-bait reel. You're just chunking and winding. You could even go cheaper than that, but get the bearings.

I use a 6 gear CI4 works great for me.

I use a Tatula type R 6.3:1 ratio for my squarebills.

Either a 7.1 curadoI or a 50e 6.4.1 both on 843 imx/e6x

I use a lower ratio Pro Qualifier for both square bills and shallow running crankbaits

For what you're doing a properly setup reel is more important than any particular model and must be matched to an appropriate Rod.
