Crankbait Rod Advice

Featured Replies

Hey guys,  I'm looking to get a new Rod and reel for crankbaits.  I'll be getting another Lew's Tournament Pro for the reel as I love that reel but I've recently started to delve deeper into crankbait fishing.  Mainly square bills but that could change the more I get into it.  So my question is what would be a good Rod for crankbaits between $100 and $150.

Also what type of line is preferred.

Any help is appreciated thanks guys!

St Croix target cranker.  Mojo bass. Glass.

I used to have a mojo glass and really regret selling it.  Great rod.  Currently I'm using a klx CRT, but haven't used it much yet.

I either use a moderate glass rod paired with braid, or a graphite rod paired with mono. If you use a glass rod with mono/graphite rod with braid I find that there's too much/too little stretch.

I've heard that the Lews cranking rods are excellent for the price

Me Too ~

Sometimes I'll use a Composite rod with braid & a mono leader.

I strive to be a well rounded & versatile Cranker.

The Mojo Big Crankster has served me well for deep divers and big squarebills. I really like my Academy Composite Cranker for squarebills, but I stumbled across some Quantum KVD crankbait rods at Academy about a month ago and they had the 7' MH/M on sale for $30. I couldn't pass that up and really like the rod so far. I'm using it alongside the Ethos as a squarebill/mid depth rod.

I've had good experiences with the crankin stick and the new micro guide crankin stick. Heard good things of the Mojo Big Crankster on here

Bps crankin stick or a shimano crucial crankbait rod

Phenix X series glass or composite, but, no matter which brand you go with definitely give a glass or composite rod a try.
