Spot or Not?

Featured Replies

The past few weeks, I have been catching what looks like spotted bass. I live in an area that Spots arent normally populated. I caught one fish yesterday. Is it a spot?

I'm going with yes on this one from your photos.  The rear of the jaw on a LM will extend back to the eye.  You're holding the jaw open in the photo, but it doesn't appear to go back that far.  There's also the spot on the tongue.  My .02.

From the look of it, i would definitely guess a spotted bass.  Did it fight like a bigger fish than it turned out to be (not that it isn't a nice fish)?

The body is that of a lmb not a spot.  A better pic would make identifying a lot easier.  Having the fish lying flat is the best way for us to tell anything.

Well, I guess that's settled.:P

My bet is on a largemouth. But with a better pic I reserve my right to change my opinion. And much like any election, my decision may change from now till then.

That's a largemouth without a doubt. I don't see anything about that fish that would make me think it's a spotted bass.

Looks like a LMB to me as well

It looks like a largemouth to me.
