My Pfluger president has a small enough gap along side the line roller to allow the line to get stuck, it only happens once every 6 hrs or so but I don't like it, is there a way to fix or prevent this?

I figure higher end reels have tighter tolerances and the small gape is not enough space for the line to fit inside, but this is only my second season and I have already spent so so much money that this will have to do if I can only fix the problem.

That is not a normal problem for these reels. Is this a new one? My wife and I own 6 or 7 seven of them so I am quite certain it has never happened to us. What line were you fishing with? Was it a really small diameter small test line? If not I would contact Pflueger and see if it is something they will take care of for you.  I just looked at several of our newer ones. The bail is held on by two screws.  Perhaps the one on the bail roller is either loose or mis machined, as there is no clearance between the parts on any of mine. Let us know what you find out. If it is just a parts issue they may just send you the needed pieces.  Truly all our Pflueger have been terrific and I have 2 that are older than 10 years, the rest newer.

I have an Abu Garcia Spinning reel that does this too..  I can feel the damage in the flouro as well.

Yesterday I took the line roller off and put it back on.. And this evening I never got snagged once.  I am not sure if maybe the fit gets loose.

There is also a video out there on YT if you search "fixing spinning reel line stuck in line roller".. Not very quality vid but the guy puts a extra washer in.. I haven't tried this yet.

Make sure the screw that holds the line roller  is tight.

A loose screw will allow a gap.

I have the same issue with my Pflueger President. Line roller has quite a bit of play I noticed. I tightened the screw as much as I could but the issue continues. I’d love to know the solution to this too. 

Using a very thin diameter braid? 8-10lb?

There's the answer. Pflueger is not what it use to be and hasn't been for a long time. They're pretty much just another brand name that was purchased so it could be labeled on a reel. It's a shame.  They had good stuff at one time. 

 

Shimano and Daiwa (maybe a little more Shimano) have figured out something different and better than everything else out there when it comes to spinning reels. They seem to be playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

What Shimano and Daiwa have done is make their line management accurate enough to handle the tiniest threadline braid, and have the line rollers to match.  

If that's not enough, aftermarket makes improved dual-BB line rollers for both Daiwa and Shimano.
