sweet beaver

Featured Replies

simple question, do you split the tail on your sweet beaver?

I do.  I have had the best luck with them on a Spot Remover. Splitting the tail appears to give it a lot more action.

Always.

try rigging them through the side and swimming them.

Incredible baitfish imitation.

Went fishing with a guide not that long ago on Fork and he said that if you don't split the tail you are representing a bluegill feeding of the bottom.  Split tail is crawfish, obviously.  He also cut the tail of his old ones, split them and used them for jig trailers, which we were swimming.

I only split mine about 25% of the time and its been one of my best baits this season. I get a little slower fall when texas rigged, un-split.

I don't think it matters. usually i don't but after a few fish the tail splits apart and i continue to catch fish at the same rate.

I used to when I was younger but, now that I am older, I don't think I can anymore !  :) ;D :)

Oh thats dirty!

I usually split mine too

A while back I switched from a sweet beaver to the Gambler Ugly Otter, but it's the same deal.

I stopped slitting the arms and tail of the ugly otter because the full-size lobes

seem to generate better vibration on the fall.
