Need a new bass spinning reel

Recommended Posts

Recommendations - affordable around 50$?

prefer to stay with spinner vs bait caster cause of the learning curve from preventing rats nests.

thanks!

Perfectly fine to stick with what you are comfortable with, Nick!

I am comfy with both, but prefer spinning now a days.

That said, you can take your pick from the major brands in their
$50 range.

Pflueger President gets a lot of love, as does the Shimano Sahara,
Catana or Sedona, Daiwa, Lews and so on.

Really the bottom line is trying to get your hands on some in a local
shop, or a Bass Pro, etc. Take your rod in and ask to put each model
reel on it to see how it feels in YOUR hands.

Good luck!

Corrected Shimano reels within the range.

I would second the vote for the president for $50, but right now I would maybe look at the Cabela's reels since they are being absorbed by BPS and they probably have some reels that are half off and Cabela's has nice reels.

I have the ugly Orange Sorrano from Shimano which I think I paid $35 in a clear package for an extra rod and I have actually been really happy with it. It is the 4000 size and it handles 12lb mono really well, smooth drag, and I think you may be able to find that reel for $30.

I would check out the new Kast King Stuff From Eposeidon on Long Island. They are making high end reels, getting all kinds of awards at Shows, excellent reviews, and I have a casting reel that is as nice as some of my top end stuff that only cost $50. They have spinning reels for $30 that get reviews on several sites ahead of reels that cost over $100 and they are located in the USA and have great customer service...I plan on getting a spinning reel from them for my next purchase because I have been blown away with the $50 7 oz casting reel which is now the reel I use most and I honestly like it as much as any other reel....

The President is probably the safest and most known choice for $50. If you do a google search you can find some great breakdowns since companies like Pinnacle who are known as an OEM make some really nice reels for retail....good Luck. Good time to buy fishing tackle right now. You should be able to find a bargain on a really nice reel.

Outdoor Angler Spinning reel 30

$14 at Wal-Mart

It's practically a Pflueger Pres knock-off with no real absence in quality.  I've been putting one through the paces this year and am very pleased with it.  Seriously incredible value.

Take a look at the daiwa revros reel! I have one and it matches up with some of my 100$ reels!

Bass Pro has the Pflueger President modela 6925 and 9630 and 6935 for $59.99. Dicks SportingGoods does as well. However if you go into Dicks and buy something cheap, a jig, a pack of gum etc. there will be a survey you can take on there website.  Go to their website, enter your receipt info and answer a few question, then print off their $10 dollar off coupon and use it to save a few bucks off the reel.  The coupon gives you $10 off any purchase over $50 so your reel will cost $49.99. Just an option I thought I would suggest.I have done this many times.

Pflueger, Pfleuger, Pfleuger...

I started with a President, progressed to Supremes and Supreme XT's. Now Ihave a Patriarch XT I bought from Cabelas on sale.

I own several spinning reels, Abu Garcia and Shimano among them, and I use my Pfluegers 99% of the time.

For $50 you cant beat a Pflueger President, above this price point I go to Shimano.

The Pflueger president is a affordable spinning reel that has proven itself to be reliable in bass fishing.

Everyone is correct in suggesting the President at $50.  The Pflueger Supreme is better, but usually 90 bucks or so.  Check out these guys.  You can get a Supreme for $69.  I absolutely believe you would be thrilled with spending the extra 20 bucks.

Nice to know. Most of my spinning reels are Daiwa but the newest model is the Advantage. I may invest in one of these as a gift for my brother-in-law. He is strictly a spinning reel user.

I have two Pflueger presidents.  I use one for light t-rigged plastics, and one for crankbaits in the 1/4 ounce range.  Never had any issues with either of them.
