Tough Bite

Recommended Posts

Got to take my new boat out on lake harmony this weekend. It was 45-60 F on Saturday. Few bites. Clear and calm. 6' visibility, compared to the usual 2. No big boats, several smaller ones like us fishing. We targeted docks with boats still there and weed lines. On an isolated metal dock with a boat, i caught a 5 pound largemouth. five minutes later and a few docks down, i caught a 2 pounder. on the .25 oz swim jig. no more bites, but we saw several 2-4 pounders cruising the bank. The next morning was 30 F cloudy and windy. we got a few bites on isolated docks. I would like like help figuring this lake out, we only seem to get 2-3 bites on the docks and weeds. The lake is 127 acres with 3 or four miles of shoreline, heavily developed. thanks

Do you know the primary food source? Is there a secondary food source? Do you have a topo map of the lake? Are there channel banks/bluffs and/or flats? Drop offs? It sounds like there are a lot of docks so are there a lot of brush piles around those docks? What type vegetation are the weed lines you speak of? Is it still green or dying off? Has the lake turned yet?  I think there are many here that would be glad to try and help but we would probably need a lot more info to be of any REAL help with your lake.

I would be absolute glad to give you the best info i have, because you are being generous in assisting me.

The lake has hydrilla that is dying and not covering the whole lake. Also there is lily pads that are mostly dead now.

no topo map that i could find after much research

I target wooden docks with boats that are isolated.

i record each dock with a fish

what is a brush pile again?

not sure why "turned" means

thanks

its lake harmony, in Kidder PA

there are shad perch and bluegill in the lake

Sounds to me like you are fishing the shores hitting the docks, as the water you are fishing isn't as huge lake. And to be honest with you, fishing the shoreline and its docks sounds like a viable option. I may have tossed a spinnerbait or squarebill crank the second "windy" day, looking for the active fish on those docks, then pitched or flipped the jig for the more dormant bass. A shad patterned jerkbait might be a good option for you to use there as well.

Its Fall time, and fishing "can" be hot and heavy at times, but there will be those "tough bite" days as well. Brush piles are just that,..piles of brush or trees, sunken in the lake to add as a attractant,... and turnover is when the surface waters start to cool, and somewhat equal the cooler bottoms temps, the lake will actually turn its waters upside down, and mix it all for a bit. Usually it will either dirty up.,..or clear a bit. And fishing can be tough for a while, as fish are scattered everywhere, or even worse hunker down and lockjaw.

Here's a contour map of the lake this should help a little.  No idea what your water temps are right now, but If they're in the mid 50's or lower I'd be looking at the flats closest to deeper water.

Northern lakes are so cool, we don't have natural lakes in East Tennessee. At least we rarely have ice!!!

no way! how did you get those? Since you are from Wisconsin, i don't think you fish this lake. Was it navionice or lake, or was it online. thanks by the way!

It's a closely guarded secret by Lowrance owners haha. It's part of the Insight Genesis Social Map. That feature lets people record their own sonar data and create a lake map from that. It's really handy for those lakes out there that don't have any contours or ones that may only have 5' contour lines.
