Dobyn's champion

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I currently own a 734C paired with a Ci4 HG which I really love.  Right now I can get a Metanium HG on sale for a great deal so I'm thinking about a 683C/Met combo to compliment.  This 2nd rod has to be under 6'10" for rod locker reasons.

Thoughts?

that 683 would be super.  I own a Powell MAX 683CEF and love it. The Dobyns will have a tiny bit lighter tip but should be terrific.

I had the 703 and it was great for weightless plastics. Fishes more like a medium but I knew that already. I liked it for wacky senkos.

That combo should balance really well.  I also have a Champion 703c and it's extremely versatile.

I've been thinking of getting a similar combo myself, mainly for finesse jigs and small plastics. It would be a fantastic setup.

I've got a Savvy 703 and it does fish more like a medium as rippin-lips said. I know they tend to be fast in the Extreme series too, so if a little more of an investment isn't an issue, consider that.

True but I think the Champ is enough rod for me :D

I am using your old rod for the same thing now, too.  At first I wasn't thrilled with it, but it has really grown on me over the summer.  I had actually sold it to a friend after a few outings, but bought it back when he was hurting for some money to make a car repair.  I'm happy to have it back.
