What is the best casting reel that I can get for around 100-125? I will use the reel for jigs and am left hand retrieve. Seen some curds, smokes, and news for this price range.

Really?

If I was going to buy a reel around that price I would get Tatula CT. If I could afford a tad more I would spring for a Shimano Curado 70 for $144.

I am a bit slow.  Maybe it is just that I don't understand the new lingo used on forums.  Please explain what this means.  Thanks.

There are plenty of threads asking this question.  No harm in asking again, tho.  ;)  Gets to be an easy answer after awhile.  :D

It is very hard to beat the original Tatula at about $95.  At a bit under $110 (fleabay) the Lew's Tournament MB is also another excellent buy.  Some of the other Lew's at about $100 get suggested, but I've never used one of them.  The PQ is a perennial favorite...especially since it goes on sale a couple times a year.

Otherwise look to the used market.  Some nice deals come up on occasion.

I'm assuming he is referring to Curados, Quantum smokes, and Lews.

Told you I was slow.  I figured the Quantum Smoke, but had no idea of the other two.  What you suggest makes sense.  I thought he was talking about cottage cheese and the latest news on Hillary.

I just got a Daiwa TDZ 100ML for $95.  You can find TDZ's and Fuegos (old red ones) for $100.  New Reels...  Daiwa Tatula CT is available for $99.95, awesome reel.

A $230 reel that was overlooked due to all the hoopla over the Sol.  Highly under-rated reel by most.

I got one that was absolutely rashed beyond recognition, cleaned it took it out and it outcast a new Curado by a fair margin.  For me a top end used reel that might be 10 years old still performs as well as many new reels in that same price range.

I have 3 and moderator .ghoti.  just mentioned in a thread that he has 6.  I also have 2 Sols, but prefer the Fuegos.  Maybe it is the color of the Sol that puts me off as I love my Alphas reels.

I got a Curado 70HG for $139.99

To stay strictly in the range I would recommend the Lew's Tournament MB.

I love my sol's and alphas.  I would not use them for a jig rod due to the amount of drag even with the smooth drag installed unless you were in open water.  The fuego and the TDZ are great and the TDZ would be my top choice if you could find one in budget.  I also use and enjoy the daiwa 153 htsl.  You can find them very cheap on fleabay and I use mine for frog and jig fishing.  Another great choice would be the zillion.  I have and enjoy many versions of this reel.

I'm with you regarding the Sol. Love my Alphas. Didn't like the Sol. I had one for a short time. Sold it for what I paid for it, and never considered another.

A  TDZ for 95 bucks ia a killer deal, if the finish is too screwed you can always send it to Calfish and have it painted.

You can get a new Curado I on the 'bay for about $130!

I've not seen one that low, but then again I don't look very often.  Too tempting.    My last TD-Z 105H came from Japan and is a good candidate for a paint job.  And it definitely cost more than $100 yet I still didn't feel cheated.

Where are you getting a curado 70 for 140 bucks?

Curado 70 for 144$ really?

Curado 70 has a "cost" of ~$125 from wholesalers.  If you are under $150, you are doing ok.

Mine was an "eBaying while drinking" shot at a Japanese TDZ.  Threw up a low bid, went to bed, woke up the next morning with a new reel.

So I guess when you say "wholesalers" you mean e bay?

Calfish doesn't paint anymore. There's also new kids on the scene who are doing killer work. Most of which I'd put above his.
