St. Crook Bass X

Featured Replies

I am think of getting this rod fro swimbaits frogs flipping and punching

I just bought two mojo series 74 heavy fast models and I've used them now on 4 trips. The rod is an absolute beast. It will cast 3/8 ounce plenty far. They do well for pitching weighted plastics/3/8 ounce and up frogs. I haven't used mine to flip yet, but I've caught a few bass and had absolutely no trouble pulling bass out of the heavy pads.

The mojo not much more, I'd swing for that if I could. it is much lighter in the tip

Never heard of any crooks that were made saints...:P

I'm kicking around the 6'8" med xf Bass X but going to wait until the show to compare it to the Mojo 6'8" med xf. Picked up the Mojo last year, like it so much I'm thinking about getting another. I'll walk out with one of them. I'm sure the Bass X are nice rods but can't buy a rod without seeing/touching it first.

This is what I would do in your shoes.  I don't own either rod, but I've played with them both in store and the mojo is far more sensitive.  The difference is way more than what I would have guessed, in my mind well worth the extra thirty dollars.

Just throwing this out there but I have the Mojo 6'10" ML XF also. It's one of the rods I use for Dropshot, splitshotting, jigging and light t-rigs. Like it as much maybe more than the same Avid rod. A lot less $$$$$$

We'll have to get together sometime during the summer and do a tidal Delaware or tidal Zookill and see how we do. Smallies, Greenies, Striper who knows whats gonna hit.

Awesome!

I'm shopping for a similar rod as well. I was literally just at the store and held a 7'1" MF Mojo and a 7'1" MF BassX. I can tell you with certainty that the BassX was noticeably lighter than the Mojo. If that is the case, what am I getting for $20 more on the Mojo? I realize that St. Croix's website lists different weight information but I know what I saw. The guy at the store said the same thing. Thoughts?

The Mojo has a better blank. More sensitive. Also better guides and a hook keeper on the Mojo. Might have been an older Mojo you had your hands on. Check the SC rating on the blank.

I saw the BassX line in the store the other day and they looked pretty impressive, and boy are they light. The guy in the shop said they are the same blank as the Avid line? I think he's incorrect because the Avid's are SCIII and the BassX's are SCII right?

Are you sure you didn't have the older model mojo? The new mojos are 130$ and I think the bass x rods top out at 100$ but I could be wrong.

The only rod that uses the same blank as the Avid is the Avid and Avid X.

Mojo Bass also uses the SCIII blank. Same as the Avid.

Same scIII material, but they are definitely not the same blank. Different actions/tapers, rolled on different mandrels, avid blanks are made in the usa...mojo blanks are made in mexico.

It's my understanding that all St Croix blanks are made in WI and the rods assembled in Mexico are with those same blanks.

Sorry for the slow response on this. I wondered the same thing. The store had no other Mojo Bass rods...all of them were $120 and seemed to be the latest models.

On the blank by where the description is of the rod is, it should have told you SCII or SCIII if it was SCII it was the older model and if it said SCIII it was newer model. And in the 2017 St.Croix catalog all the mojos are at least $130. Now, I went to st.croix's website and it showed mojos for $120, but when I went to the 2017 catalog via their website, I saw $130 for mojos.

I have the extra heavy one, and i want to trade it for something else. It's a fine rod, but guides are pretty giant in comparison to my other rods. Its a little short for me too, could use another 6". this is all personal preference though, you should try one out yourself and ship it back if you don't like it.
