Good on ya, JJ! Fenwick has a good reputation for quality rods specifically for smaller rivers, creeks and streams. I'll probably get my hands on a rod from their River Runner and /or maybe an Elite Tech Smallmouth if I can get my hands on one. Glad it's working out for you.
  6. Yup, the MF is for shakeyhead, tubes and craws on jigs. Also, I use the MF for swimming 3"-5" swimbaits. The MLF is more for hair jigs, sliders and smaller finesse stuff. I use the MLXF for casting and swimming grubs and smaller, lighter swimbaits.
  7. http://m.dickssportinggoods.com/p/costa-del-mar-hamlin-camo-polarized-sunglasses/16cdeuhmlnblmrrrlsgs?&color=Blue/Camo DSG has a pair of 580p green mirror for $99. Seen a couple of good Costa sales but rarely any green or green mirror lenses. Pretty good deal. Steep and Cheap has some pretty good buys right now too.
  8. Rapala original minnow, Rebel Crickhopper, Southern Pro Hot Grubs and Triple Tails on Kalin crappie jigheads.
  9. What'd we miss? i got St Croix Rage rods for fairly cheap from their website a while back and like them very much. Didn't like the previous Mojo bass model, but have tried the present models and like them a lot. Gonna get a 7'1" MHF model from BPS with the trade in. I like the components on the Rage series better, but I can get used to the Mojo fast enough.
  10. Sorry for the confusion. This was last year at the Colorado Springs store.
  11. Bingo! You need a good, old-fashion popping rod. My favorite is the old school All Star 7' PRM-S for medium power. Falcon makes a great popping rod nowadays.
  12. Yup, my local store had a sale on St Croix sticks going. Might have been because they had just changed their fishing section around and had increased their inventory on some rod makers.
  13. BPS Speed Shad one of the Keitech babies that have worked for me. It's my go to paddle tail. Kalin's for my grubs. Yum and Rage for my craws and Rage Menace Twin Tail as my change up.
  14. I tried it when it first came out and was not impressed. Tried PowerPro and was so frustrated with the wind knots I stayed away from all super lines for a while. Last Spring I bought some more Nanofil and was getting slippage at the knot every time. I have to use a leader because almost all the water I fish is very clear. Also, as said above, using a leader helps keep you from cutting into the main line. I started tying the Alberto knot and have not looked back. I love this line because it gives me excellent casting distance and stealth. Low stretch gives me a good solid hookset even on the end of super long casts. That was a problem with nylon for me. One of the biggest advantages for me is the Nanofil lasts quite a while and there is no memory in my experience. A well behaved line. Not one wind knot yet. I have 2 spools for almost every 1 spinning reel of mine. Most of my spare spools have the Nanofil spooled on and that's the one I tend to grab first now.
  15. ^ This also. Elbow spinner harness helps when visibility is really bad. I like small cranks/topwaters because your hook up percentage is better and the average bluegill tends to be bigger compared to a jig and much bigger compared to bait.
  16. The SC Mojo vote here also. The Bucco is a heck of a rod, too.

Black Neon (black w/red flake) is one of my best colors for bottom contact soft plastics and jigs for Central and SE TX. Seems like craws in the waters there will eventually go thru some molt that will eventually be very close to that color. Green pumpkin/red, Green pumpkin/blue, Carolina Pumpkin/red, roadkill, camo are big hitters for me late spring thru early fall. From fall thru early spring similar colors with copper flake or only black flake will do along with various shades of white.
  18. Tube, grub, soft plastic hellgrammite, soft plastic craw, stik-o or zero, Rapala minnow, Rebel craw, pop-r or tiny lucky 13, Bomber Fat A,
  19. Drop shot is typically not the first option for murky water. If you are gonna use one in murky water, make sure it is chartreuse, fire tiger or black. Also make sure it is scented like a Gulp! Alive! bait or squirt some scent in the tube cavity. Makes sense to use a soft plastic that is fairly bulky and will move a lot of water like a beavertail or something similar.
  20. And this... When the water is murky. Once you find them, work them with jigs and/or bobber rigs. I love casting jig/grub for bluegill, but I typically cast them in clear to moderately clear water. If you are gonna cast grubs, use chartreuse or fire tiger. Also use scent.
  21. Hey hamma, you make those or can I get some?
  22. I only had a short time fishing for yellow perch, but I had my best luck with 1/16 - 1/4 jigs with tubes mostly and other plastics. Not dragging bottom, but not jigging them either. Second rig was a slip bobber rig and did well on that. Drop shot is very effective. In TN they fish for them with a spreader rig and do well. I didn't like it as much since it's a very drop down/vertical way of fishing and I like to cast, but it is very effective.
  23. I don't know about bass, but I sometimes use croaker and pinfish for live bait for inshore species and I like to use short shank barbless bait hooks.
  24. Yeah, if your using a jighead that gets snagged 2-3 casts out of 10, your jighead is to heavy. It's supposed to kinda slide and hover just over rock, rip rap, timber and such. I like the OG mushroom heads and really like ones with a single or double wire weed guard for when I'm dead sticking in between retrieves on chunk rock and rip rap. I like Sliders Spider jigheads for this too.
