  1. Also, the Lunker City Lunkergrip jigheads are super also. I've gotten away from them, but next year I will be fishing them again.
  2. The grub is the original swimbait. I really like the VMC boxer jigs now, but wished they came in 1/16. There were a lot of jigs I had the utmost confidence in, but they went out of business one by one. Now I mostly use saltwater jigheads (H&H) with shorter hook shanks. Gonna try those Picasso's. They look interesting.
  3. I have a bunch of Rapala Original Floating Minnows in the baby bass color from size F03 to F13. They don't make that color anymore and it flat out catches fish where ever I go. I've tried other floating minnows in the baby bass color, but none of them catch fish like the Rapala.
  4. That's OK for LA bass, but you need something bigger for the TX bass.
  5. That aspirin head looks real nice! I've been using more hair jigs here in CO, but I only use them in certain conditions in TX.
  6. Learned to fish the swim jig. 2017: Ned Rig. Seems pretty similar to Slider fishing so it shouldn't be a huge learning curve.
  7. Welcome! What type of jigs do you tie?

Appreciate it. Was also in Bavaria and this South Texas boy did not like that at all!
  9. Avid for me too. Avid X doesn't offer some of the rod specs I like.
  10. The 35 is the size I use for bass with 1 rod rigged with a 30. The 35 hold the right lb test and amount of line for what I do and casts plenty long when rigged right and balanced. The 40 is used a lot on the Gulf Coast for bull reds and big drum.
  11. Thanks for the help, yall. Gonna stick with the Premier for now.
  12. This has been my experience with a large school of feeding smaller to medium size bass. I'll often switch to medium-large bass colored baits. Lucky 13s, Spooks, Heddon Torpedoes, bass colored crankbaits, jointed swimbaits. Also, bass colored and Houdini colored soft plastics like grubs (curly tail and boot tails), soft swimbaits, flukes (donkey rig with one bass color and one Houdini). Haven't tried the swim gig in this situation yet, but look forward to it. I've caught not only big bass in TX Hill Country waters on this pattern but also stripers, wipers and flatheads. Seems the smaller bass victims are mostly Guadalupe bass and Guad hybrids. Found more than a few bass tails sticking out of the gullets when I get them to the boat.
  13. It's been a while, but here's what worked on the Smith's Branch of the Cumberland River is this: Early Spring Mann's stingray grub Yum 3" & 4" tube Smithwick suspending Rouge finesse jig/spot remover Spring-Summer slider jigs w/ Slider worms, Slider grubs and Yum hawgtails. Yum Tubes Kalin Grubs Heddon Torpedoes, Baby Lucky 13s, Rapala and Rebel Floating Minnows, Rebel Jumping Minnow
  14. I'm not far off from you. 4lb Nanofil with 4lb Trilene XL leader. 1/80 and 1/64 jigs with various plastics from 1/2" - 2". I tend to fish a 1/32 jighead most of the time, but switch to the lighter when they get tight in the mouth.
  15. This!^ I love fishing for sunfish and crappie and this rod is the best I have used and I have used a lot of different rods. The BPS MicroLite Graphite used to be a close number two, but they have changed the rod completely and I haven't fished it since they changed it.
  16. Similar to my other topic on this board, I bought a bunch Strike King King Shad swimbaits after seeing a KVD clip of him catching a bunch of lmb and smb on one. I tried my All Star Team All Star Inshore rod (7'6" MMF; made in Houston models) poppin' rod. I use this rod a lot for larger topwaters. Works well enough, but it feels a bit weird. Tried my St Croix Premier MF, but felt like it really overpowered the rod. I tend to go with a bit softer rod for lures with trebles, but maybe that's not right for this technique? What rod would you suggest? Not really interested in throwing larger swimbaits but will probably pick up some the same size and smaller. Thanks yall.

Howdy! Been reading the articles for quite a while but only noticed the forum tab recently. Grew up fishing mostly inshore around Houston, TX and Corpus Christi, TX but would fish freshwater every once in a while. Started fishing freshwater avidly after my wife and I enlisted in the Army. I only did 5+ years but my wife is still in. We've been stationed (and I have fished around) Fort Campbell, KY/TN, Fort Leonard Wood, MO (only shortly) and Fort Carson, CO. I've also fished a lot around the TX Hill Country. I love fishing for the TX inshore Big 3 (redfish, speckled trout and flounder) and all sunfish up to and including all the black bass. I'm definitely a finesse fisherman, but enjoy learning and trying different techniques. Glad I'm here!

  19. Howdy! I subscribed and signed up for all the listed sites. Can't wait to make my way thru the YouTube channel!
  20. Greetings! I have been reading Bass Resource articles for years, but had no idea there was a sister forum. I am an avid bass angler who primarily fishes finesse rigs and presentations. The last few years I have been buying NorthStar swim jigs, but have only really focused on fishing them this past calendar year. I've been fishing them on my St Croix Premier 7' M F casting rod pretty much exclusively. Fish 3/16 - 5/16 sizes with the standard Kalin's grubs, Rage menace grub and paddle tails mostly. I feel like the rod I'm using is adequate, but was wondering if there is a better option. Not a lot of really dense or nasty cover that I have to pull bass out of in the waters I'm currently fishing. Most of what I've read on-line just says to use the same rod I do for fishing spinnerbaits, but I don't really fish spinnerbaits, so that's kinda out. Thanks for your help!
  21. SissySticks hit it on the head. Match your rig to your tackle. I have been using the classic spider slider jighead for years and have only lost a few jigs and have never had one straighten on me. Set your drag properly and you should be fine. I rig my classic spider jigheads on ML fast and xtra fast spinning rods with 6lb test with 8lb test on the spare spool. Sweep hookset does the job well for me. Probably about 90% of the time I have either a Slider worm, Slider grub, Yum Wooly Hawgtail or Yum Wooly Beavertail on my classic spider Slider jigheads. The only time I switch to the Pro Slider Spider jigheads is when I'm fishing some serious current around some serious hard cover like a dam tailrace when it's really churning. When I'm fishing these conditions and the pro spider, I'm usually fishing a M power F action rod with 8lb-10lb mono or 10lb-15lb braid.
