Megabass PV Broke In 2 Pieces

Featured Replies

Ordered a Megabass Black Jungle PV from that big auction site and it arrived in 2 pieces. Rod and tube broken in half. 1st time this has happened to me. I'm going to give USPS an ear full when they open back up from lunch.

Yeah. He insured it. Said the tube was not broken prior to shipping.

That's why you ship in pvc instead of cardboard when dealing with high end rods.

Ouch!

Stay on the seller to initiate and follow through with the insurance claim process. It's not that hard. If you care to share the details of the breakage I can offer advice as to options for repair. I'd splice it and have a second high performance rod.

I actually just ordered another one, this time from the Tackle Trap. I am waiting for ebay to settle the dispute on my rod that broke.

hope everything works out for you. glad you were able to find a replacement. the tackle trap rocks!

What a waste of a nice rod.  Glad you found a replacement.

May I ask, why eBay and not UPS whose responsible and insured the package ?

The seller on ebay only had $50 of insurance on the package, so that is all USPS will refund despite their negligence. The seller told me he had insurance, but failed to realize that if you don't pay for extra insurance normal priority mail only covers $50. He thought they covered the entire amount of what was paid for the rod.

Ebay has a money back guarantee if you file a complaint and the seller and you cannot come to terms. So far, me and the seller aren't seeing eye to eye. The seller has 48 hours to help resolve the issue. If nothing happens, then ebay stips in.

megabass USA has a 3 yr warranty and i believe the 1st year is free replacement for original owner. if the seller was the original owner and it was purchased in the USA, the seller should be able to get it replaced and might refund you in full after he reads about it assuming he doesnt know. Tell him to use that $50 insurance to pay for your shipping it back to him. He would then have a brand new PV to sell.

USPS is probably the worst way to ship a rod in my experience.

The packaging and lack of proper insurance are to blame more than the carrier. Things happen that's why there's insurance available. Schedule 40 pvc and fully insured is the way to go.

DVT - i agree 100%. i have shipped an rcvd about 40 rods total (im sure that dwarfs your numbers) and have had a few close calls. the cardboard tubes that USPS taped up when broken looked like a 7 second job.

Although packaging is more important than carrier, have you noticed more lack of care when handling when comparing USPS, FedEx, UPS etc?

i've had the worst experiences with ups and the best with fedex. i've shipped/received ~ 40 sticks too like bigfruits and my tally for broken sticks thus far - ups: 3, usps: 1 and fedex: none. for this reason i only ship pvc via fedex when selling. i dont purchase from an individual unless i verify that he will ship in a pvc tube.
