A rod that floats?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if BPS Carbonlite rods float?  Reason I ask is I saw a blooper video from this past Major League Fishing of Chris Lane where he's trying to flip his 5" Whopper Plopper and he hits the water with the lure before he flips it and it causes him to lose his grip on the rod and he loses it in the water.  But the rod AND reel floats and he just reaches over and picks it up out of the water.  The video is on Facebook or I'd post it up here.  If you have Facebook it's on the MLF page.  Anyways, it seems that Chris primarily uses BPS Carbonlite rods and reels and if they do that's pretty awesome that they float.  Would save a good investment on fishing equipment if one would happen to go overboard while fishing or motoring.  There is a picture of it floating below...

If I'm clumsy enough to send an outfit overboard,

the combo should sink to the bottom to punish my negligence.

Mind you, I'm not saying it never happened to me      :embarassed:

I don't have any rods that float, but I do have an angler who is cheap enough to dive in the water after them...

Don't know about any production rods, but I built a 7' SCV that floats horizontal with the reel attached, full spool of line and a Lucky Craft Pointer tied on.

Some rods will float with a reel attached.  Tt really depends on how much air is in the blank as well as the weight of the reel.

I do not know of any rod company any more that actually builds rods to float, It is more of a side benefit. I would look at more mag taper blanks if you are looking for ones that may end up floating.

The KVD cranking rods float with a 200E5 Curado attached, thankfully.
