Cranking bass and giant pickerel

Featured Replies

The weather has been nice here for February and Iv'e been out hunting down the big mamas as much as I can. No luck on any hawgs recently but hooked up with a big pickerel over 5lbs. Yesterday in the same spot something big blew up on my crank and chewed me off. Probably the same fish although it's loaded with them. Water temps are higher than I ever remember for this time of year.

Thanks. Gotta get out there when water temps are 55-58 in February where I live.

great lookin' fish.  i really miss catching pickerel.  they will flat out annihilate a bait.  the small ones i used to catch were so much fun.  i can only imagine what one that size would be like on the line.

A few days ago another decent size pickerel ripped the split ring and treble off the lure. They are wound up in this lake.

Nice looking catches.  Congrats.

That is a BIG pickeral! On tackle light enough to let them keep their fins in, they are speedy things! Never seen one that big though.

Nice catching, but you might consider a softer rod or less HGH... :)

Looks like that pickerel is eating well. That is one of the biggest pickerel I have seen in a long time.

We catch some in my area but no where near that size!

Looked like a blast!

Great fish!

Maybe I'm bigoted, but I rank a 5-lb chain pickerel on par with a 10-lb largemouth bass.
