I have some Berkely Gulp 4" night crawlers I got on sale at MC sports in the fall. I'm trying to get stocked up on fishing stuff I need for this spring. I am planning to use Owner Mosquito hooks on a dropshot. should I use size 6, size 8 or size 10 for the 4 inch gulp crawlers. Thank You

i myself would use the Owner Wacky hook in size 2 , a very stout hook and excellent hook up % .if you do go with the Mosquito hook , try the  size 2 hook , they smaller you go , the more delicate they are .

Although it is personal preference and you will experiment with various baits and hooks, I use the red Owner Mosquito Hooks in the 1/0 size, #5177-113.

 

No size is right or wrong. Just experiment and see what happens.

 

That is the fun of bass fishing: trying different baits, tackle and techniques to fool those little green monsters.

 

Smaller hooks are fine, depending on the size of the bass you expect to catch.

Good hooks, and like @Sam said, experiment on

size. I also preferred their wacky hooks, but either

is good. My only issue with them, is the slightly

bent hook point.

 

One of the reasons I use Gamakatsu now. I feel I

get much better hook ups with a straight hook point

as opposed to the "beak" hook point.

 

Though I have no science to back it up, it may be

a confidence issue. There are articles out on the 

web that do seem to back that up, though.

I've used those quite a bit for 4" finesse baits and definitely wouldn't go smaller than 6, and if the "nose" has any thickness to it you may want to go to a size 4.

I recommend the dropshot/split shot and

the Wide Gap Finesse. Great hooks, the 

WGF is a bit thicker than the ds hook, but

still thin.

 

General size for the DS is 1/0, but I'll use

2, 1, 2/0 as well.

 

Same with the WGF.

Gamakatsu drop shot/split shot hooks in size 1 is my preference.

Owner Mosquitos are the main hooks I use, and the smallest I go with is a 6, with a 2 being the most common.  I'll go smaller if I use smaller baits but anything thinner than a 6, can get kind of dicey if you hook onto a big fish.

X2. For those having issues with hookups, up a size, and just reel tight. I like the Gammy WGF for wacky, but not so much for drop shot, but it will work.

I too use the Owner Mosquito Hooks for dropshotting. 

 

Personally I go with the smallest size I can get away with for whatever species. 

 

I only Dropshot ultralight (4lb fluoro), and I fish even for bass this way. I seldom lose any bass (even the large ones) on the smaller ones.
