Chatterbait Skirt Trimming?

Featured Replies

Is trimming the skirt on a chatterbait effective like it is on a spinnerbait or is it useless?

I was thinking it may help because it will have the same effect, but if not, I won't trim my chatterbaits.

Thanks!

i don't think it's worth it. the reason most people trim spinnerbait skirts is because of short strikes (at least that's what i think) for chatterbaits most people (if not everyone) uses trailers so there wouldn't really be a point

I only trim my chatterbait skirts if it interferes with my trailers ability to move freely. A trailer hook would be more effective with short strikes than trimming the skirt IMO.

Half the time I remove the skirt entirely

On half of mine, I really think them out, especially with certain trailers.....play with different presentations

I lightly trim my chatterbait trailer depending on the trailer I have on it.  I'll make sure the skirt doesn't cover the "moving" part of a trailer, and, will trim the skirt so it's roughly even all the way around.

So far this year it's been non-existent, water hasn't turned over yet and everything is chocolate milk/full of debris with all the rain and runoff.  Starting to warm-up though, so as long as the rain doesn't keep coming back, in about 2-3 weeks it's gonna be on!

Same with my area. The rain is bittersweet haha. It's helping the drought and ruining the fishing!

I like bulk on my bladed jigs, along with the fact that I'm tying them so I do them like I want the first time.

I do fish them like Rolo said at times, without a skirt and just a swimbait on the back. Seems to be very effective when they're really keyed on baitfish.
