Football Jig

Featured Replies

I use them all the time.  They come through the cover better then round jigs.  I tip mine with hula grubs.  Caught some nice smallies last weekend.

Good Luck,

i like using them around rocks, the wider head helps to not get stuck between rocks and in cracks vs a pointed or round head.

definitely try them around rocks. I fish with football heads in a few rocky rivers and they hardly ever get caught in rocks.

i love football heads and use them in situation most say they are not suited for.  for instance i like to fish offshore brush with them and have little problems.  grass or weeds is usually the thing that makes me turn to a more traditional style jig.   they are a must when fishing rocks for me.

Try a dart shaped jig head for the weeds they move through them quite well.

We use them all the time for offshore structure around post spawn and through the Summer.

I drag a 3/4 or 1/2 oz jig off of main lake a creek channel ledges and also over deep humps. Jig size maily depends on wind or current (heavier in more wind and / or current).

Either throw black n blue or some shade of green. Trailer- either twin tail grub or Zoom trailer.

Key deal to the ledges and fishing it deep is to use the right equipment (7 to 7'6" Heavy action rod on flourocarbon line and a fast reel to catch up to the fish). You need the stiff rod to set the hook in deep water.

It's also good for "soaking" deep brush piles on structure.

Generally I just slowly crawl the jig over the structure, but sometimes you can trigger the fish by hopping it and letting it fall on slack line.

I use them in some of the same ways as already posted but I also use them for swim jigs with a curly tail, twin curly tail the heads seem to wobble as you swim them for a little extra movement.

I usually use them close to shore or around rocks.  I use either a 1/4 oz black or pumpkin with a Zoom finesse worm.  I like the Luck "E" Finesse Football Jig from BPS.  The spring on the front holds the bait in place.
