Since I've only been hardcore bass fishing for 5 yrs there are a lot of baits that I don't have much experience with. RI Sweet Beaver, how do you fish it mostly or catch the most fish with it? When you Tx-Rig it do you just fish it like a Tx-Rigged worm? Same question for the Missile D-Bomb and Destroyer? Thanks guys.

There are sooooooooooooooooo many beaver style baits out there, you could go crazy trying them all (most of us have tried).  Stick to a brand or two grab a few colors and call it a day.  Sweet Beavers & D-Bombs are certainly some of the more popular ones and they get the job done.  But really now a days any plastic company has 1 or 7 various styles of these baits.  

 

IMO (which isn't worth a whole lot) it's more about fishing the right spots than a sweet beaver vs a D-bomb on any given day.  I like to use beavers primarily to flip/pitch cover (brush, grass edges, etc.)  I'll certainly hop it a few times but for me it's about getting more casts than slowly working the bait back to the boat.  I fish a mostly shallow rivers so I don't get the chance to throw it in 15' FOW.  

Definitely flipping/pitching baits.  The destroyer you could probably drag like a t-rigged worm but the others are meant to be flipped to heavy cover.   

I like the Netbait B Bug. I fish it two ways.

 

1. Texas Rigged with a pegged tungsten sinker. I primarily pitch this presentation in heavy vegetation. I will drop it into a hole or fish it along a weed edge. I will let it hit the bottom, yo-yo it a few times, then retrieve for another pitch.

 

2. As a jig trailer

 

 

I've caught fish using them like worms, I've caught fish swimming them down the middle of the water column, pitching, punching.

 

 

If you want a really versatile beaver style bait, look at the Berkley Pit Boss. I switched to them after years of using R.I. Sweet Beavers and have no desire to go back. They do everything the R.I. Beavers do, for less $$$, and offer the added bonus of being a more "active" bait, and serve me well not only as a flipping/punching bait, but as jig trailer on flipping/football/bladed/and swim jigs, a biffle style football wobble head bait a drop shot bait, a shaky head bait, a c-rig bait, a rage rigged swimming bait, and even as a weightless frog style topwater bait.

The Rage Tail products are great too. A little pricier but if you want a lot of action, they deliver. I have been using the Rage Tail Menace and it's been very productive for me. I also like the Structure Bug which is more of a beaver style bait.

Beavertail baits can be fished in any manner you wish, but due to their broad profile and slender thickness

I use them mainly for Flipping & Punching. I rig them on a Mustad Grip-pin Flipping hook (straight-shank rebarb)

with a tungsten punch-weight. Although Reaction Innovations started the ball rolling,

today my favorite beavertails include the Missile Bait 4.0" D-Bomb and Zoom 4.25" Z-Craw

Check out ExtremeAnglerTV. That guy mainly throws Rage Tail beaver bait. I've watched him enough this winter I'm confident that I can be a pro when I try this summer.
