Hi, I need to know what bait I should use with a 6:4:1 reel on a med heavy 6,6 rod.

I am a newer member here and I have been away from fishing for quite a while and I have been amazed by just how specialized some folks are regarding reel/type/gear ratio/line/leader...

 

I have a pretty wide selection of gear now and I am looking forward to spending as much time as possible on the water this year trying out all the ideas the more senior members of this forum have provide.

 

Just wanted to express a little gratitude to those of more experience who are willing to share.

It really depends on the conditions, and where exactly you are fishing, etc.  We really can't help much without knowing some more info.  That rod is very versatile, and is probably a good rod especially for topwater and larger jerkbaits, and maybe some jigs and Texas rigs.

I don't name my rod-n-reels that way if I throw a jig on my worm rod it doesn't get confused!

Id venture to say the vast majority of folks here have one and will use it for almost any presentation. 

 

If you like it use it, don't over think it.

Wasn't too long ago the OP's combo would be known as a bass rod,  we all owned a few of them for our bass fishing with every type of lure.

Yup.  As previously stated, that rod and gear ratio are often cited as a good all-around, do anything combination.  Throw anything on it you want and decide afterwards what works best for you.  That will give you an excuse to buy more.  

The lure weight recommendations are a pretty good starting point, a little lighter my reduce casting distance, a little heavier may lob the bait. Really Catt is right, there's no rules, but sometimes life is easier when you have the proper tool for the job, or proper weight for the rod
