I get to buy a new reel this spring and love my Revo S. So I'm looking at the Revo SX which Cabelas has on sale for $120. Any other quality reels I should consider for that money? FWIW I'm not the type to do maintenance so I need a bulletproof reel lol

No experience with those reels.  My Revos are an older model STX and two older model Premiers.  For about $10 more you should be able to find an original Tatula Type R.  Personally like its looks better than the Revo line and like Daiwa's braking system, although I have no problem with other braking systems.   Another nice reel that can be found for about $108 is the Lew's Tournament MB.  However, if you like your Revo S then you will probably like the SX.  I haven't read up on them since the Gen 3 introduction other than to read what gets posted on this website.  I've never fished a Gen 3 Revo so can't make any comments on them.

 

My only thought is if you like a line of reels, then going up to a more expensive model should put a smile on your face.  

 

EDIT: I don't like doing maintenance either.  I have sent new and new-2-me reels straight to DVT for cleaning before they ever came to me.

Check out Ebay. I bought a new  Revo SX for 73 bucks. You can get 2 Revos.

And I found the Tatula CT Type R on Ebay new for $130. It says new; any reason to shy away from an Ebay purchase? That seems like a pretty good buy.

I buy all of my reels from eBay, including my 3 CTs. Those sellers on eBay are legit. Most of them are retail stores that just also sell items for cheaper on eBay. Never had any issues. They've all clearly been brand new reels.

 

Triacetackle2016 and departureoutdoors are two I've had great transactions with. Departure got me my ct from Cali to FL in 3 days.

Well I just bought a Tatula CT-R from ebay for $130. Ad said there were only 2 left so I jumped on one. I'm sure I'll love it. I read a ton of reviews on both the Revo SX and the Tatula CT-R and they are pretty similar with a ton of people loving the CT-R.

The Tats are a good deal especially on the auction site deals. I'd stop short of calling them bullet proof and are not diy friendly if/when the time comes. For bullet proof look for left over Shimano e or g series. That's still a little over stated but more applicable than with the tats I think. 

Tats are good, also I sold my Revo S a couple years ago in favor of a Lews... all personal preference but I found the palming of the Lews superior to the Revo.  Has been a solid reel for me too.

Good choice, you're going to like the Tatula line. I have basically switched to all Tatulas.

 

Tatula SV TW, Tatula CT, Tatula Type R, and Tatula Tactical. All great reels.

I had a Shimano Citica failure over the weekend. Trying this now. I like the fact I don't have to open up a side plate.

 

We shall see.

Any thing made by Lews, that's all I use is Less reels have several from their lowest level to high end level and all of them or four years old now with three long hard Toledo Bend spawns on them and all of them are still running fine.

 

And yea I don't maintain my reels when they break I buy a new one.

 I was gonna go the Lews route. Cabelas got swamped and nothing left.

 

I'm gonna get one in the $149-179 range very shortly 

I just saw a revo sx for 110$ on Amazon. I have one and it's a great reel. And every spring I open up my reels for maintenance and by far my revo is the cleanest inside I probably don't even need to open it if I didn't want to.

lews BB1 and Shimano Citica. both are better reels than the Revo SX. Just my 2 cents

I don't think you can go wrong with these three.

1. Lew's Tournament MB (I find the extremely comfortable reel shape and size fit me) 
2. Daiwa Tatula CT (I like the handles and the finish on the reels)
3. Shimano E or G series (because DVT says so)

Of course any reels in their respective line up that is more expensive is also a option. Do your shopping and  many of these can be had really inexpensively. I know the Lew's and the Daiwa both can be had easily under $120. All are quality reel companies and all have a large fanbase that says they are proven quality.
