2 piece 7' MH casting rod

Featured Replies

I've looked around online and on here and I'm having trouble finding a 2 piece 7' MH casting rod. I have a jeep so 2 piece is almost a must unless I want a rod that I only keep out at my family's lake house. I recently tried a 7' spinning rod and love the longer length and I'm looking to get one of the same length for my baitcaster. My other 2 baitcast rods are 6'6" BPS tourney specials, one M and one MH. I'm skeptical of a H rod as it may have limited use for me as I don't use very many heavy jigs and things of that nature with a lot of weight. If I missed a post on here I apologize and anyone that could point me in the right direction would he greatly appreciated.

Make, or have made a rod on the 7 ft 2 piece MHX mag bass blank MH or H power. I have to fly for my bass fishing, so have travelling issues too. This makes a very reasonable rod for not too much money. If you want to spend a fortune, Japanese rods are often available in 2 piece.

I'm sure I could find a video on it, but in your opinion how hard is it to buld your own rod from the blank? It seems very tedious on first thought.

I've built my own rod since I was about 12, and I turn 50 tomorrow. It really isn't hard at all if you're moderately dexterous. The most difficult thing is the epoxy finish on the whippings, but if you're building it for yourself the appearance isn't as important as the function. If you're nervous about doing it ask some of the guys on the tackle making section of this board for a quote. I expect you can get the whole thing done for less than you imagine and have a decent fishing rod that suits your needs well.

Abu makes a 6'9 mh in 2 piece, it is not that easy to find but check Gander Mountain, it is model MODEL # VRTC692-6

They have the rod for $79.  They also have a $20 discount on any order over $100, so order some baits and get them for free basically.

Do you drive a jeep wrangler? I have a wrangler and can get 7' rods in it no problem. It does make it a pita to shift but I deal with it.

I have a 2 piece Shimano Clarus 6'10" MH casting rod that I've had for 8-9 years now.  It's been through everything and is still going strong.  They still make them and the part number is CSC610MH2C.

I understand your pain poster. I bought a 2 piece ST.Croix Premier 6'6.

Love it but I am too looking for a 7' 2 piece

Just contacted DVT to get an idea what something like that would cost.

Just saw your email. I'll have something for you later this afternoon.

Check out Fenwicks offerings. I had a smallmouth 2 piece casting rod that was fantastic.

Yeah I could probably make it work but seeing as I go to college near our lake property about 2 hours away from home I always end up having a full back seat when heading back home where I usually hit a few ponds while there. I was just seeing if anyone had any suggestions that fit my specifications as I have had a hard time finding rods that do. I do understand the added sensitivity but if anyone could explain why what I'm looking for is so rare that would also be appreciated. I really appreciate this forum for the wealth of knowledge. When talking to friends they just assume I really know what I'm talking about and every time I get on here I'm humbled.

Sorry if I don't directly reply to all posts. I really do appreciate any and all suggestions. I'm just a college kid that's trying to make the most out of bank fishing and really trying to learn more and grow as a fisherman.

You did not speak of budget and rippen  went down the same line as i will.  There are a few rods out there that are two piece of a different standard.  A few of the jdm rods have the handle come off which reduces the size for packing out but loose little in there performance.  The second would be some of the older st croix rods telescopic where the top portion slid down into the handle a lot. my old fishing partner had one and it was great.

I have been using an Inferno 7 foot 2 piece medium heavy rod for a number of years and love it, made by Field and Stream.

I think after 4 years, he's found his rod.
