Just picked up a Shimano  Nasci  2500 reel today. Looking for a rod to use for drop shotting that won't break the bank. I will mainly be casting and dragging the rig. Any recommendations?

Take a look at the Fury 702SF.   It's a lot of performance for the money.

Define break the bank.  I like the Dobyns Fury also, but if your budget goes up to $160, then I  would add the Sierra SA 692SF and  SA 702SF. I like shorter rods  for better casting control sometimes, but if you are fishing really deep, open water than the 702 is your better choice. 

ai really like the sensitivity of the Sierra rods.

 

Either way there is no wrong choice here.

Trying to stay around $100, but I don't mind buying used. I'll give them a look. Thanks

The Fenwick HMG is also a great rod at the 100 dollar mark. I used one a lot last year and use a Sierra this year. The Sierra is a lot more sensitive but the HMG was fantastic for the 100 bucks I paid for it. I used the 6'9" ML and it would work great for drop shots, they also make a 7'6" ML if you feel like throwing a drop shot clear across a lake.

St. Croix Premiere

Bass Pro Carbonlite

 

I own both and really like both in the ~$100

space. I prefer shorter rods, so 6'6" is the max

I use. My Premiere is 6' MLF, Carbonlites are

6'6" MF. Carbonlites are lighter than the Croix,

but both are very sensitive.

I agree with you Darren. Sweet time to be a newbie fisherman. Hardly a bad choice in the $100 range with some of those feeling more like a $200 rod like the Fury. Now if I could only get my lure spending under control.
