I believe you should put an arrow on spool  or some sort of documentation included with your product for the end user to use to determine which way to spool your product.

sorry...that isn't much help...I have switched to braid for most of my fishing and no longer worry about it much....Glenn had a vid about spooling spinning reels that had a good tip...I just don't remember it.  My father used to crank on a few a dozen turns and then pull out a few feet and let it hang between reel and first eye and then look for twist...if bad, then flip over the supply spool.  My other non-tip is that if I am not using braid, I usually use Yo-Zuri, and 'label up' works 100% of the time for me.

If loading a baitcaster the line comes off the top of the spool.

Based on my own advice, been doing my spinners upside down for a while.  No ill effects to report, though.

now I am confused , why not just spool it off , I stick a big nail through the spool and nail it into a block of wood, that is how I have been doing it for years. Is that the wrong way?

As long as there's tension on the spool, that's fine.

Would it make a difference if that spool in the Shiamano pic were flipped over?   (line coming off the back and reel turning ccw ---as viewed from spooler's right side?)

If you can afford to sponsor and pay for advertisement.... You can pay someone to design a pamphlet/manual and include it in your product.  If cost is an issue than use your website to upload this diagram/video.

I've been spooling spinning reels with the refill line spool laying flat, label up with some tension on the line for some years now with good results. But now I use braid exclusively on bass spinning gear, so I doubt it matters. I guess that's open for debate because I did it straight off the spool for years.

 

Baitcasting is a no-brainer.
