I'm looking for some suggestions on a good headlamp for night fishing. Would like to have both red and white lights but am more interested in using the red.  So what's your favorite?

There are TONS of choices - at many different price points.  

I have been using the Streamlight 61051 Trident for years in many different applications.

Offers 3 levels of lighting (two white modes & one Green) 

Best part is it's one button (one hand) operation - and over 60 hours continuous run time.

Ditto on the Streamlight 61051.  Runs on 3 AAA batteries. Plus, it doesn't have a strobe feature which I don't need or want.

I have been using a petzl tikka for years and am very happy. It is light weight, crazy good battery life and i am not a fan of the over the head strap.  I will usually leave my headlamp around my neck like a necklace.

 

it isn't the best for long distance light but i rarely if ever need that capability anyways.

I use it to retie only so white doesn't bother me, if I we flying a F22 Raptor I might be concerned.

can't remember what mine is now, i wanna say petzl.  but my #1 criteria in a good lamp is a good fit/lightweight because otherwise they make my head hurt so bad they're pointless.

I have a nitecore hc90. Sick light.

I've been using the Black Diamond Spot 200 Lumens since last fall and it's been a really valuable tool to me. It comes with both a bright white light which illuminates up to 80m for 50 hours and up to 16m for 200 hours as well as a red light, a dimming feature for both white and red light, a strobe in case you get into trouble, and lock in the event that you're doing a lot of work and need a constant light source.  On top of all that it's waterproof, and if submerged, water may enter the battery compartment and it will still operate. I have and love waterproof Fox Firefly...was around $25 from Amazon

I've been using my Thrunite TH10 and love it. It uses a one button operation to keep one had free, has moonlight mode to help preserve night vision. Since it is a powerful light (750 lumens on turbo) it uses a specialty battery an 18650 but you can get those through Amazon.

Whatever one you get, make sure it's up and down angle adjustable. I had a cap light I thought was a great light with two different intensities of white and red light. The problem was I had to tuck my chin to my chest to get the light focused on what I was doing, and having bifocals I couldn't focus. I looked like a bobble head doll every time I went to retie or get a hook out of a fish.   I went back to using a pen light and holding it in my mouth. The light points exactly where I'm looking and it has a pen style clip so I can keep it in my shirt pocket along side my hook sharpener.  If I do loose it, I'm only out a couple of bucks.
