I am struggling getting a bite on a squarebill crank and a swim jig and I would also like to know if you would recommend a Dawia Laguna spinning reel or bass pro mega cast 

Well seems like the fish in your area are not chasing a moving bait, might want to try a worm or shaky head.  No idea about those reels

 

Sounds like you need to slow down.

 

No idea about the Daiwa, but that BPS reel is a piece of junk, my brother in law has one and it's constantly getting major line twist.

I would stay as far away from a BPS megacast as possible. That thing is pure junk. I bought that as my first baitcaster to learn and I ended up having to buy another baitcaster. I couldn't cast that thing unless the brakes were set to the highest setting. I took it out back a couple months ago to try it again and I still can barely cast that thing without all kinds of overruns and line twists. BTW I can cast a baitcaster now. In fact I use a baitcaster 85% of the time. But the megacast is just 40 dollars worth of junk. 

If you are looking for a budget baitcaster you are still going to have to pay a little more than 40 for something decent.

The Daiwa Aird is a good reel for 79.00

You can get the Dawia Fuego CT for 79 right now which is supposed to be better than the aird. This would be my choice for a starter baitcaster.

In Wisconsin the water temp can be low but now it's starting to increase water is stained and clear

I'd recommend this also or go get a max series from Abu.  In my opinion and experience all bc below the PQ was junk.  Fuego I hear is a Tatula without the T Wing, sounds like a winner at that price point if true.

Yeah that is my understanding of it as well which is why I recommend it. The T wing quite honestly isn't a huge deciding factor for me when getting a reel. 

But the 90mm handle, the Magforce Z brakes and the quality of the build smoothness all around if it is like the Tatula CT then it's a heck of a reel at a very low price.

Bass Pro reels are junk!!! Now for your baits. I would start throwing a jerkbait,twin tain grub,a underspin,paddle tail swinbait because with all these execpt the jerkbait you can slow down and cover top to bottom.Water temp comes into play,water color prespawn, post????
