Daiwa Tatula - Type R vs. SV TWS

Featured Replies

looking at these to reels for future purchases. What is the difference, which techniques work better with the different reels, is one better? What is the difference between the type r and regular tattle. I have a zillion tws, arachnid, and tattle ct, a a reference.

I too am looking to pick up another bait caster and the Tatula Type R or perhaps a SV are definitely options I'm considering, so I will be interested to see what people have to say here as well.

While I think both are excellent reels, my choice based on the ones you suggested would have to be the Tatula SV TW.

The reasons are three fold; first, the SV TW rotor moves back towards the magnetic field which brakes the spool according to the weights of different types of lures. Secondly, the SV SPOOL with Air Brake System helps cast lightweight lures with ease to give you a longer cast with no back lash. To me, this is valuable as sometimes I find myself casting 1/4oz baits and I want to make sure that I get additional braking help from the reel when I'm casting to control the spool and its spin speed.  Thirdly is the lower line inches retrieved per handle turn of the SV TW. When it comes to cranking, this guarantees that you're keeping the lure in the fishes strike zone a little bit longer if required.

The SV TW is the reel that I would use if I found myself wanting a reel that can handle lighter crankbaits including squarebills, spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, and potentially any soft plastics or jigs that weigh in the 1/4 to 3/8oz size.

Hope that this information is helpful, it's a nice choice that you'll be making that's for sure. :)

I knew this was gonna get entertaining

Well you would have me sold on the SV if it wasn't $100 more and double the price I can get the Type R for (and a little out of of my price range).

you can find the SV version for about $50 more than the type r. Really depends on what you want to use it for. The SV are awesome all around reels, only downside is if you are looking to run over 16lb test the spool can get a little low on a full cast. So if you are going to be using heavier line i would opt for the ct type R, otherwise if you are going to be using 16lb or less the SV is an amazing reel for literally everything.

Probably going to be my next reel purchase. will work great on a 6'7" M F Omni Black. Will spool with 15lb braid or 12 lb floro for jerk baits and senkos near docks.

I haven't been able to find it under $197 anywhere. I'll keep looking.

I can appreciate most people are on a budget, I'm in the same boat.

I find that when I'm facing a major purchase (like this one was) I spend a lot more time looking at how I fish and the lures that I'm hoping to use when fishing with this reel. I fish a lot of light baits, and always have. The reason for this is because I became a light line specialist over the years while fishing very highly pressured water.  Admittedly I'm good at throwing a baitcaster, but I just found my skill diminished when trying to throw those light 1/4oz baits.  With the SV technology, I'm looking forward to now having some extra assistance which should allow me to throw those lures.

In the end, the extra cost was worth it - for me. You would have to decide if it's the right choice for you and make a choice at that point.

Cheers!

I own 2 Type Rs and my next reel purchase will be the SV. I throw a lot of weightless flukes and sticks baits so it would replace my Lew's Mach II reel. I will wait it out to see if I can find a deal later in the year because I'm cheap.

If you already have a Daiwa you might be able to modify it by getting an aftermarket finesse spool. I have a Daiwa Tatula 100H and found a finesse spool for it on the internet auction site brand new for $34.95 It came from Hong Kong in about 12 days with free shipping.  It works great for finesse fishing. Casts a wacky a mile and you really have two reels. Brakes well with virtually no backlash once tuned Look up NEW DAIWA TATULA CUSTOM HONEYCOMB SPOOL on the auction site. The seller actually emailed me to ask what color I wanted!

Did it lighten the reel any? And how much line does it hold?

I was thinking about getting one for my Tatula Tactical.

These after market spools are losing grams not ounces Uld  never be able to feel the difference in weight

If it's in the budget the SV is head and shoulders above the type R, honestly no comparison. I was totally amazed at the casting ability of the SV

It feel lighter because of all the air holes. Weight of the spool is 11g line capacity according to the seller is  6# 100m, 8# 80m, 10# 60m I put Invizix 8# on it and have plenty of line It's not going to cast a mile because it's a finesse spool so I use it with lighter baits but it gets them out there.

Does the search button not work recently?

I've never figured out why people get cranky about someone asking a question...

If you don't like it...don't click on the topic...

It's not like "Daiwa Tatula - Type R vs. SV TWS" can be interpreted as anything other than exactly what it is...why waste the effort clicking on it...and even more...why waste the effort to complain about it?

You didnt have anything to add to the op's question either. So why waste your time commenting

Because there's no reason to make someone feel bad for asking a question that's been asked before.  We all have to learn.
