Any other riders out there?

If so, show your ride!

One of my other loves - The result of many many hours of testing, twisting, mending, bending, and just tinkering in general... The joys of owning a motorcycle never stop :D

I have a BMW R1200RT that I love but unfortunately need to sell due to 3 knee replacements and a very bad back. I hate the thought of it but I have not started the girl in over 3 years.

I have a Harley Electra Glide and an old shovelhead. I also live in some of the best riding area in the world, Eastern Tennessee.

Yep, '07 BMW K1200S.  Started in '88 on a Suzuki Katana, then '95 Suzuki RF900R, and '97 Suzuki TL1000S. I had the RF for 20 years. The TL was a cool toy I found stock & unmolested in 2011.

I traded the two Suzukis for the BMW in 2015.

Those bikes are awesome!  I have been looking more and more into picking up something that can handle a passenger and the BMW 1200's are right at the top of the list.  I love my FZ1 for riding solo, but it is definitely not built for two and you FEEL it after about 40 miles or so.  Sorry to hear about your knee and back!

Beautiful bike!  I'm sure the Suzuki's were great machines too.  Over the years my family has had a slew of Suzuki quads and we even had an RM250 dirt bike back in our motocross days.  They all ran solid!

Beautiful scooters!

I'm afraid they are very much a younger man's ride.

Although they are a blast in the twisteis you might be surprised how well that RT would hang at Deal's Gap or similar roads. There's some GREAT riding in the Western NC/Easter TN area. About 10 years ago, the wife and I spent almost 3 weeks in the Alps and So limited. Glad we did it then because world politics may cause the end of that. It has for me!

Check out Ironhorse Campground in Stecoah Valley TN!

Should you developed serious thoughts about owning an RT shoot me a message. It a 2011 with ALL the goodies and less the 9k miles.

I sold my '99 1200 Suzuki bandit. I woke up the 1100gsxr detuned engine the bandit had. The downfall is the bike is so smooth at 100mph you are comfortable there. To keep ahead of the traffic one day it's 85mph. Another day it's 90mph. If you go slow they will run you over. I did put some youngsters on their rockets in their place. There shocked to see gray hair. I did let her out a few times at 155mph. But had to part with her I was constantly doing 100mph. It was time to let go.

Now I'm restoring vintage, post vintage husqvarna bikes. Thinking about another bandit....after having cancer it doesn't matter, live life to the fullest.

I could drop a leg in a turn with the best of them. Anyone who wants to learn how to ride should learn in the dirt first.

Couldn't agree more about learning in the dirt.  When you are used to hopping over downed trees, it's pretty easy to keep your cool for the vast majority of road obstacles.

I also know what you mean with the stability these things have at speed.  I bought my bike with full fairings and did the euro conversion since I like the "streetfighter" look.  Prior to the conversion, 100mph was achieved every time I had it out.  Now that I have the full force of the wind hitting me in the chest at speed, it helps keep me a bit better behaved!

I used to ride a lot, that I put avg of 10,000 miles on my bike per year. I ride with a few small clubs every weekend when I lived in OC before I married.

My wife bought me this new bikes after I gone without a bike for a few years. I guess she saw how sad I was when I saw a group of riders on FWY. Bought this brand new in 2009 now I have more than 70,000 miles and counting.

I was out that way a few years ago and made the trip up to see Mulholland highway.  You guys have some great roads out there!  We have some decent roads here in PA but the riding season is shorter and the winter can be pretty harsh on our roads.  A great road one year could be a hazard the next.  With all of our pot holes, the saying hear in PA is that the sober people swerve and the drunks are the ones who drive straight through!

Lockwood.thumb.jpg.4328e214512f8ce61656ae5ebc214c8c.jpgYup, here is SoCal is great for riding we don't have any thing like deal'gap or dragon tail but we have so many twisties and canyons also along the ocean on PCH is great ride. And the most of all you can ride pretty much all year long.

I sold mine when my son was a baby. One left turn zombie was enough for me to realize I needed to take a break. 1983 Honda Shadow VT500, brought back from sitting dead in a barn for decades into a beautiful reliable machine. Custom "British Racing Green" paint job, new seat, jet kit, so much else I can't remember. I really miss that bike!

I live near Hollister, CA.  BIG rally there this weekend with 10k+ bikers in town.  They're all over the place around here now.  Apparently the movie The Wild One was based on some occurrence there several years ago.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'll post pics when I get off work. I have a 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300, 2015 Ducati 899 Panigale, and going Saturday to look and and possibly buy a 2017 MV Agusta F4. I also have Dirt Bikes but too many to list. I live life on 2 wheels and the water.

Can't think of too many better ways to live!
