Hey Y'all!!

My name is Joseph and I just joined. Also new to fishing. Or at least more active fishing.  I use to go cat fishing a few times a year with chicken liver and a hook.  A few months ago, my son, 10, asked me to take him to go fishing.  I wanted to stack the deck for him so I went to a nearby fishery where we promptly caught, nothing.  I realized he didn't have the patience to sit there and wait for the fish to bite.

I didn't want him to give up on fishing so I decided to go to online and learn more about fishing.  Youtube of course but I also had questions "how to's" I kept seeing this website whenever i had questions.  What/How do use swimbaits / best time to fish / tidal effects on fishing / what's the difference between lures, baits, swim baits, chatter baits...I can go on and on. However, I kept landing on this website.  So, finally I decided to join. That and I saw the 250$ chance to win at bass pro shop.  But honestly, this became my go to website. So, I decided why not!

My son and I have fished about 2 to 3 times a week since then.  So we're starting to be a little bit more confident.  We're starting to get our rigs set right via help from friends who have more fishing experience and it's an awesome dad-son time.

When he caught his first fish, by himself. He was ecstatic!  I was so glad to share that memory with him. Looking forward to learning and maybe fishing with y'all!

Tight lines!!

Joseph

Thanks Y'all!! I'll have to upload a picture but I think all of my phone pictures are greater than .15 MB.  Will need to adjust my phone resolution I guess.

Thanks for the welcome!!

Welcome to Bass Resource Joseph from a fellow Eastern Panhandler. I'm up near Martinsburg and fish the Potomac the majority of the time but also fish the Shenandoah occasionally.  Lots of fish in both rivers, good luck to you and your son!

Thanks!!  I was actually thinking about trying the Potomac river. We get pan fish in the Shendoah, I think only two or three bass.  To be fair, i don't really know what I'm doing. I'm still trying out different combinations of lures, baits, rods and reels, fishing lines, and the such. We've figured out how to catch pan fish, worms and light lines mostly, so now we're trying to move on to bigger fish. Any recommendations for spots in the Potomac?  I was planning on looking at WVDNR to find a spot but a personal recommendation would be better.

thanks again!
