Long time lurker and a question

Featured Replies

I've been lurking on the site a long time and finally signed up. I live in Wisconsin and fish mostly lakes in SE such as oconomowoc, etc. I fish for bass, panfish, pike, you name it!  I have a 17' alumacraft and often fish with my 8 year old son.

To to that point, I have a question and not sure exactly which forum it might fit into. I'd like to find a lightweight breathable cool life jacket for my son as the cheapie he has right now makes him very hot in summer, and looking for suggestions!  I should also mention he is still learning to swim.

Hello and welcome aboard! I don't really know anything about life jackets, I never use them as I fish from the bank. Wish I could help you out there. I'm sure there's some good folks on here that can help you out though. Good luck!

Greetings and Welcome to the forums  :)

Welcome!

I think you might be best off with the foam style with mesh straps. They're cooler, but you also don't have to worry about him being able to get the thing to inflate like a manual or auto inflate PFD.

F3, welcome. Glad you decided to join us.

How about adding your physical location to your avatar so we can give you better input.

As for the life jacket, do you think your state's department of fish and wildlife can give you any input?  Try giving them a phone call and ask one of their specialists about your query.

Another suggestion is to ask a water ski shop owner for their input. Not a clerk but someone who has the knowledge and experience with kids water skiing.

The last suggestion is to find your local power squadron and ask them for the individual who knows about life jackets and give that person a call.

Good luck and have fun on the water.

Welcome aboard!

My sons use something like this from Dick's:

Lots of ventilation. Great for kayaking, though now

that they're older, we're looking at better, more kayak

specific models. These are great for boat, canoe, or yak.
