Hey my son (22mo) and I are learning to fish! We accidentally caught a bass fishing for bluegill in our neighborhood pond on our roughly 15th trip. That was enough my son begs to go fishing every weekend morning when I wake him up.

 

I'm looking for any advice pulling in baby bass at the ponds in Orlando. From my judgement it's dyed, maxes at roughly 5ft, and I've lost a few bass due to terrible ability to set the hook. I'm fishing a pumpkin seed Texas rugged zoom worm on a 3/0 hook. Can I go smaller? I'd rather pull out a single 4" fish every time we go than a monster once per year.

Howdy and welcome aboard! I've been bass fishing in a couple small ponds in my neighborhood here in Central Louisiana for the past week and been Texas rigging 10.5" Zoom Ol' Monsters weightless. Just casting into cover or as close as I can get to the cover and slowly reeling it in. I've caught 11 bass in those ponds ranging from about a half pound or so to about 2lbs or so. Most of them were about a pound though. Still was fun catching them. You could try that and maybe it'll work well for you and your youngun too. Good luck!

If you are interested in small bass try a 3 or 4 inch senko weightless. 

 

Google 'the old lady angler'. Some interesting videos from that area.

Hey thanks for that link!! It's hilarious to me I already have the Ugly Stick GX2 and I'm looking at getting a small senko just like she had. Am I an old lady?...

 

Any idea on the hook size or how she rigs it? Am I good with my 3/0 or should I go down a size? Thank you for the tip!

You're good with the 3/0. Davecon's suggestions of a 4" Senko is a good one. 

You can also try a bb cricket t rigged with an small weight, or a ribbon tail worm. 

Work the cricket on the bottom and slowly reel the the ribbon tail. 

 

With those 3 baits you'll have the whole water column covered.

When I downsize to a 3 or 4 inch senko I go with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook.

Its awesome to hear them asking to go fishing!

 

I am fishing the lake and ponds around Central Florida, too. I routinely present 2-3" swimsuits and 4-7" plastics. I learned it from one of the articles someplace on here, 4" baits get a #1 or 1/0 and 5-6" get a 3/0. I used it as a starting point, trying the lures I was going to be using with different hook sizes. The advice was spot on for the lures I was using, giving the bait enough spine but not too much to limit the action of the lure. You might also want to look at the hooks themselves as I found I needed to bump up to a 4/0 Gammy G-Lock when I was looking for a non weighted hook that was comparable to the size of the Owners 3/0 Weighted Twist-Locks hooks.

Any good videos on how to fish the TRD? Just texas rig it or is the ned rig better? Guy at the store suggested the ned hooks figured why not.

Welcome !  and do this.Mike L is right on. Fl. fishing can be tough at times but once you get it you can catch em year round.
