Sooo I have been seeing people using these "bass jigs" with skirts on them around my lake.  Throwing them into lily pads and weeded areas. Putting them into open pockets of weeds etc. never knew how good they were so I'm wondering. What's everyone's best skirted jig type or company. And with what trailer? ..  craw, beaver, shad etc.. and what kind and colors. Wanna try and throw some this weekend.  And tips would help to

Siebert outdoors is the way to go. Quality conponents, great price. If you look in the tackle forum, there's a thread called jig fishing questions or something similar. Great thread. Read all of it and you will have a good idea on where to start and the correct retrieve/rigging/location/colors. Pretty much all you could ask for. I love fishing jigs and it's what I do best. Still read every word of that thread monthly. Constantly learning.

Another vote for Siebert. Best jigs I've used. I mostly throw the brush style. 

 

And for trailers, the Net Bait Paca Craw or a Rage Chunk or Craw are good options. 

Again, you'll be hard pressed to find a better combination of head/skirt/hook options and prices than you will with Siebert.

There's no one best. It all depends on the cover/ structure/ depth and if you're pitching, punching, skipping swimming or casting.

 

Trailers: SuperPork frog, GYCB DT grub and Rage Craw. Skinny dippers for swim jigs.

I like my siebert outdoors jigs, I use arky head jigs for grass and weeds, I mainly use the rage craws for trailers but I'm experimenting with other options to. 

The most important part of a jig in my opinion is the quality of hook, baitholder for holding trailers in place if you thread them on the hook, and of course the weedguard thickness and angle of line tie.

 

Siebert Jigs does a good job of breaking down the different types, plus picking your own colors will give you more confidence. Most guys who sell Jigs and pour their own usually start out doing it for themselves because they can't find Jigs out of the package that can do what they want. Usually they share a few with some buddies and then they can't keep up with demand. 

 

Hard to beat the Siebert prices and selection, plus they will give you the confidence that you have a top quality jig, and they are actually less expensive than many out of package jigs.

 

For Trailers, all options above are good choices, but I would simply suggest to get "Creative" at times. I am guilty of picking trailers that I think look the best in the water, but the trailer needs to match the mood of the fish and color of the bait/water.

 

For stained water, I love to mix a black/blue Green Pumpkin combination. I also find if I use a green pumpkin/Brown jig with 2-3 different shades of the same color, I tend to catch more fish.

 

A double tail grub is probably the trailer I use most often, but the Rage Menace, and Zoom Critter craw are some of my go to's.

 

 

Not sure what is best or how you could ever measure best anything. However as a jig enthusiast I would look for a few things when considering what "Brand" I buy:

 

1. Wire tie or at least have this as an option - You can always wire tie a colar banded jig but you need a few things to do it.

2. Skirt color options or ability to order custom colors that fit your style and waters

3. Price being some what reasonable

4. Quality components from the hook to the skirt to the head/paint

5. Different head and head color styles - Swim, Arky, Brush, Poison etc...

 

Siebert offers all of the above and is wise pick. I also really like Northstar, Dirty Jigs, Lockjaw custom jigs, and 6th Sense. I have bought jigs from guys I "know" and they do killer work as well.
