Frog rod for whopper plopper?

Featured Replies

I just ordered a whopper plopper size 90, and I was wondering if I could through it on my frog rod. Which is a a Lew's Mach speed stick 7'4 heavy, with a Abu Garcia pro max 7:1:1 gear ratio, and 50 lb power pro (I also throw swim jigs on this setup). I've read a couple other posts but none of them have answered my question, so I was wondering if some pros could help me out.

You don't need anything that heavy with the 90. I have M/F spinning rods with 10-20lb braid for guys to use on guide trips and it works just fine.

I use a mh/f and it's fine, but it's definitely not required.

I like a mh/f or med/mod depending on where I'm fishing, most of the time it's one a rod that's free'd up. Good chance I'm gonna change from the 90's to 110's
