Whopper plopper

Featured Replies

Anyone else have problems with them spinning? I've tried the 110  and 130...some casts they run fine other times they'll spin.  This has shyed me  away from these baits

None. We've used 6. 2 of each, 90, 110, and 130.

Anyone making counterfeit ones maybe?

They will spin and twist your line up if the prop shaft gets the smallest bit of vegetation on it. I fixed that problem by adding a swivel at the split ring.

Is the tail not spinning or is the bait submerged?  When I make really long casts sometimes the bait will submerge as I begin the retrieve.  If I wait for it to float back to the surface before I begin the retrieve it whops and plops all the way back.

90s work great for me

There's KO's out there, but I have some of those too and they work great.

OP, I have over 2 dozen with 90s, 110s, and 130s in the mix and I've lost another dozen. Have yet to have a single one that would spin during the retrieve. Only time I've seen issues that weren't caused by weeds or junk on the surface was if the user was using any line other than braid or not holding the rod tip up.

I've found that with the 90's I have to go tip up on the rod most of the time to keep the tail spinning properly. As mentioned above, with long casts they tend to submerge for a bit so you have to wait before retrieving.

If the tiniest bit of weeds get caught on the back end of the 90's they tend to lock up and then the lure rolls a bit. Very frustrating. It's not as bad with the 110's and 130's. I think I read that their design changed a bit with the 100's so it was harder for weed strands to gunk it up.

How do you guys remove the grass that gets stuck where it spins? A toothpick?

A hook

The only time my 90 won't spin is when it gets vegetation caught in it. Any of it I can't remove by hand gets removed by tweezers I have on my multi-tool.

I have a 130 in loon color. Dont have any problem with it operating correctly. Only issue i have is i have yet to catch a fish, or get a bite for that matter.

My fingers. And with the 110, I just push the tail into the body and twist it and it sort of grinds up the weed.

I like to spray some kvd line and lure on my whopper plopper tail i also use it for spinner blades and swivels.
