Must have G Loomis Rods?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to upgrade all of my gear. Went to the local pro shop and held an NRX and pretty much fell in love. I also like the look of the glx series. I throw a lot of plastics, in cover, around cover and open water. I throw jigs anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 (currently have a megabass emtf on order for the lighter jigs). Weightless jerkbaits, the list goes on. I'm looking for casting gear. So what are the must have casting rods from gloomis in the NRX and/or GLX line and what do you use them for?

I don't fish the NRX anymore ,but when I did I always liked the 873 crr the best for jigs around 1/2 oz. you may get by with 5/8 but for the heavier stuff I'd be looking at the 894, possibly a 895 but I've never fished one. I also had a couple 853's but I never did like them as well.

I never fish a 1/4 oz jig but I do fish a 5/16 ball head a bunch on Table Rock. I had a 803 that was pretty good for that jig and a speed craw trailer. I also threw a fluke and floating worm on it.

I will say if you want to become a good jig fisherman on Table Rock ,time on the water is a lot more important than having any particular rod.

I think a jig/worm rod needs to be the most sensitive.  I will add a 3rd glx to the quiver this winter

If you want it to be more universal look to the GLX MBR 's

I love my nrx 893, but your emtf will fish similar weights. If you want something for heavier jigs then you can't go wrong with the 873crr or 894jwr. The 894jwr is slightly more powerful.

GLX MBR 844C  Jigs and weighted soft plastics. Perhaps the best "all-around" rod

GLX MBR842C   Swim jigs, small swimbaits and Cut-R. Mine is matched with a Core

50Mg and #10 Tatsu. Perhaps my all-time favorite production rod

GLX BCR893  Weighted soft plastics, especially the Rage Tail Menace and Structure Bug

803 - Senko's

853 - lighter jigs/plastics

854 - heavier jigs/plastics

Step up to an 89 if you prefer a 7'5" rod for any of these presentations.

NRX 852s is my favorite spinning rod by far

I have a NRX 872s and the new GLX 892s both are phenomenal rods.

NRX 893 is legendary for a non-custom rod. Liked it so much I had to get two of them. ;)
