Trailer bunk rolling up.

Featured Replies

My lowermost bunk on the left side of my trailer constantly tries to roll up when loading the boat.  The boat is a ProCraft 185 DC PRO, with a marine group LLC trailer that came with the boat.  I've tried adjusting the bunks with the boat off the trailer and the problem continues.  My plan is to take four jack stands and a couple of floor jacks to raise the boat slightly while I make some bunk adjustments. Any advice other than don't get any part of my body between the bunk and the hull?  Is it possible that I've just got a loose bunk and if I come on wrong at all it tries to roll?

Take your boat to the lake and launch it, tie it to the dock and work on the trailer bunk without the boat on the trailer.

Not sure what you are discribing as rolling up? Is the carpet coming off? Or is the entire bunk board moving foreward? You can see the bunk bolts with the boat on the trailer and should be able to tighten any loose nuts.

Don't try this with jacks.

The whole bunk rolls 90 degrees and leaves the boat sitting on the edge of the 2x4 bunk.  I back into the water again and fix it.  Doesn't happen all the time but enough to be aggravating.  I've tried it with the boat completely off the trailer and I can't see why it's rolling.

Take the bunk off the trailer and inspect the bunk brackets and bolts, something is missing or broken.

I think I get what you mean. Is it more pivoting than rolling? If so it is designed to pivot to somewhat conform to the hull of the boat, sounds like it may be a little too loose though. Should be obvious with boat off trailer, just compare it to the others

If I understand correctly the bunk board is pivoting at the bracket?

If it is have the bracket welded

When I replaced my bunk brackets, I left the boat off the trailer, put the new brackets on but left them somewhat loose, loaded the boat up and then tightened them up so that they had some movement but were not free floating.  I want them to adjust to the weight and position of the boat when I load.

Sounds to me some bolts holding the bunk brackets is loose. Does the other bunk do it too? When the boat is off the trailer, can you turn the bunk with your hand? I had the same trouble on my boat and it was just a matter of tighten up some bolts.

@Bucky205 when you say you fix it do you mean you tighten up the bolts our are you just rolling the bunk back into place and loading the boat?  If you can roll the bunk by hand then it is too loose.  You need to tighten the bolts on the brackets.

I tightened it up really snug and it seems to have solved it.

Totally agree with WRB.

I had to replace my bunks and did exactly what WRB says to do.
