Featured Replies

Make sure that your mold is warm as well, if it is cold, as in outside temperature, I will warm the hooks as well.

If you don't have your mold sprayed with Drop Out, that helped me a lot.

Try using masking tape to create a vent between the sides of the mold. This will help if you are having a venting issue.

I used to warm up my molds with a candle. It also left a lot of soot on the mold. I think that helped quite a bit.

Are you using the hooks the mold recommends? I like the others hit mine with a candle and left the soot in there as well as I lay my molds on top of the pot while its heating up. And I do several pours with no hooks to make sure its good and warm. The only time I run into issues is I like to use the Owners hooks in my molds and probably cause they are a bit thicker they don't allow full pours.

This is an older thread and don't know if  the op has resolved the problem?

Also the problem was defined as a "clean pour"? Everyone thinks the problem is releasing the jig from the molding that doesn't define clean. Clean could be no porosity or minimum flash?? What cuases lead to be porous is gas trapped in the mold from poor venting. What causes flash is the mold isn't closed tight. Cold mold temperature cuaese cold lead flow and under filled jigs. The lead needs to be clean and de gassed. You want the lead hot but not reddish color. I use Lee's lead and pots. The mold must be pre warmed or warmed by pouring lead into the mold until it's hot. Setting the mold on top of the lead melting pot warms it. Candle wax or paraffin will de gas the lead  and can be used smoke coat the mold cavity to aid in releasing the lead.

If you use a hook the mold is not designed to accommodate the mold may not close tight and this may be the OP's problem?
