TOWING BOAT ON HIGHWAY WITH SEATS ON

Featured Replies

Hello,

The title pretty much says it all.  Do most of you travel with your seats on?  We have been taking the posts out and just mounting the seats until we get to the lake.

What are your thoughths?

thanks

I'm running down the lake at 75 mph with the seats on, why not down the highway.  Actually, I seldom run as fast down the highway as I do on the water, so yes, I always leave my seats on.

I also just pull the post and put the seat back in the base. Probably wouldn't have to, but better safe than sorry. Maybe less wind resistant to???

If I had screw-in posts, I would never take them out.

It is a personal preference thing.  I only take my seats out when my wife is pulling the boat with her jeep.  She needs them out to be able to see behind her.  Otherwise they are in all the time.

I do both. Alot depend if the cover is on. If so no seats and alot of times if we're going on a longer trip they come off too. We just take them off so we don't have to worry and it is one less thing to possible go wrong.

I lost the back seat towing my Triton last week.  I haven't called to ck the replacement cost yet and I dread finding out.  I wasn't running over 70 mph and had the post out and the seat pin in the base on the deck.

Unless I'm just running to my local lake where the launch is only 1 mile from my house I always take the seats out and stow them.  That goes for anything else that might get loose in or on the boat.

I don't need to give Murphy any more chances to ruin a fishin' trip.  I leave that to the weather and the jet skiers  ;D

Redlinerobert lost one too on the hwy, lesson learned.

Mine stay on but they are are on a swivel that tightens to the pedestal.  Pedestal is screwed to the boat,  ain't nothin' goin nowhere. ;)

I drop mine down both on the water and on the hwy; after 35+ years you see some weird things happen.

Try catching a bow seat before it goes by at 60 mph, it'll leave burses  ;)

I take mine off when trailering mostly because of wear and tear.  My back seat is one with a back to it and on the highway it will swivel around so it faces forward and the wind try to open it.  This has stretched the strap that snaps and keeps it closed....probably wiggles it around in the post hole too.  I also thought debris or something could cut it.  Less sun also can't be a bad thing.

I keep mine in at all times except when covering. Also my back seat does get taken down because it has a folding back and i've seen a few those get ripped out by the wind when trailering.  Otherwise my butt seat is always in.
