Hello IL Anglers, I am planning a fishing trip the weekend of April 25th. Would like to go to one of the good lakes in Southern IL. We are coming from St. Louis. We are not very good fishermen so we need help. We do have a boat. Can you offer a lake recommendation and some more detailed tips- part of the lake, depth, etc. We have heard of: Crab Orchard, Lake of Egypt, Little Grassy, Kincaid. Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks for your reply. Good point on how big is small. 500 acres is fine. Lake of the Ozarks is too big; lol. We do have a boat with trolling motor and 50 HP motor. I appreciate your help.

I just posted this in the Central region so my apologies. I am looking for a recommendation for a good lake in southern IL. My buddy and I are not the best anglers, but we do enjoy wetting our line. I prefer smaller lakes as I find them more manageable. Thanks in advance Larry

Leaving later today for Wappapelo. Originally, we had a crappie trip planned. But I hear the crappie have shut down recently. So I thought maybe we should try the bass. I have never been there before. Any bass reports? Any suggestions/locations/tips are greatly appreciated. thanks Larry

In slightly stained water, do you guys think the mist green or clear is better? I have used the green in clear water but not sure if it matters in slightly stained water.

I just found out Cabelas stopped carrying Yo Zuri Ultra Soft. Anybody know why? I have used this line for the last few years and like it. Any suggestions for another retailer? thanks Larry

Thanks for the replies. I didn't do the install. I had a very large factory authorized dealer/repair center install it. What do I look for to see if the cord is threaded properly? Not sure how it should be? thanks again Larry

Hello, I just purchased a new TM with the above base. Before this TM, I had a wireless model so this type is new to me. When pulling the cord, it is fairly difficult to release the latch to deploy the unit. Is this normal? Should I "pop" it or a slow tug? Should it go up, or back? Any adivice or wisdom is appreciated. thanks Larry

Hello, I just bought the above tm reconditioned. I think it was unique to Cabelas. Does anyone have any experience with it. I know it is 24v; 70lbs; digital with variable speed. thanks lb

HELP. i need a new trollilng motor. I have a 17' alum bass boat set up for a 24v tm. I had a Motorguide wireless and did not like it. Today, I find out water was in the lower unit over the winter and now it is rusted and broke. Does anyone have any experience with the Minn Kota Edge 70 lbs? I want a cable drive system this time. Any suggestions are appreciated. Larry

Hello, I have an alum bass boat similar to a bass tracker. I would like to install a vertical rod holder on the front of my console to hold 4 rods. I have seen pvc sleeve type. Do they work? I am concerned if enough of the rod fits in the sleeve to support the rod. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Larry

I posted this on the IL board but did not get any replies. It is very close to St. Louis so I thought I would try here. I know the lake is a city lake and requires a sticker. I am happy to spend a little money if the fishing is good. Does anyone have any experience fishing this lake? Are there large bass there? Numbers of fish? thanks in advance Larry

We did pretty good. Caught them mostly in front of the docks in 25-30 ft.

Hello, Heading to Lake O this weekend. I have been told to fish the docks. We are staying near MM 20. Any suggestions on which docks to fish? What should I look for to find the best docks? Should I be flipping/pitching in the docks? Should I also throw crankbaits around the docks for suspended fish? thanks very much Larry

Hello, I have the above on board battery charger. How long should I expect it to take to charge the 3 batteries? I understand it depends on how drained they are. But they shouldn't be fully drained but it still takes overnight to charge them. thanks Larry

Hello all, Well the bait monkey got me and I pulled the plug. Found the Curado E50 on sale at Cabelas for $139 and the Crucial Cranking rod on sale at BPS for $109. I plan on using this for medium cranks and spinnerbaits. Larry
