Hey guys, any suggestions on why my depth finder, bilge pump and panel gauges aren’t working. They were fine until my mechanic installed a new hot foot a few days ago. Took it back to him and he put a meter to the depth finder and said it was a bad ground somewhere and that I would have to bring it back another time because it wasn’t going to be a quick fix. Seems like every time I have these guys instal or fix something it comes back with something else wrong. Needless to say I will not be going back to those guys and need to get this resolved myself. I have checked connections on switches, fuse panel and battery and everything seems to have good clean connections. Any suggestions on where to start or what to try to get power back to these instruments and accessories. Thanks!

I'd guess that the mechanic who worked on the boat accidentally pulled a wire off from under the console while working on the hot foot. Maybe he even caused a fuse to blow. Because several items aren't working, a ground is a good guess so look for a black wire, loose, hanging under the console.

Could be a ground but it could be a hot wire. Look for any wire that is hanging from under the console. Also, there should be a main hot wire going to your console, check the fuse in it if nothing is working in the console. The fuse could be under the console or in the battery compartment.

Do you have an accessory cut off switch in the back hatch? 

 

First thought is the wiring harness under the dash. 

Alright guys, I really appreciate your input and help on this issue with my electronics. I got to looking and found a nicked ground wire leading to my fuse box. Probably half inch of exposed wire and a little corrosion. That’s probably the problem correct? I’m thinking about resplicing the nicked area and puttting in new ground wire. Is that what needs to be done? Thanks guys

Cut exposed bare wire section out and reconnect the clean ends using a wire nut. If everything works, then run a new ground wire using the old wire to pull the wire through.

Try this if u have crimpers. Definitely a solid connection and waterproof

I don't think your problem is the corroded damage wire, it could be and should be fixed.

Run down the hot foot ground wire to where it's connected to the ground point. My guess is whoever installed the hot foot disconnected your accessory wire ground.
