I have quite a few older green curados, cu200b and cu200b5. I've been through these reels quite a bit, I'm starting to notice a couple of them have a problem that I can't figure out why it happens. I'm thinking it's worn main gear and pinion. Here's what they do, if you spin the reel crank handle and stop it abruptly, (stopping the crank handle) the spool ratchets. The pinion is lifting over the pin on the spool and ratchets. The pinion is supported by the yoke and the yoke is being held down by two springs. My first guess was worn springs and yoke, or possibly clutch cam. Replaced them and still did it. The bottom of the pinion doesn't appear to look worn. I have 12 of these curados and three of them do it pretty bad, even with no line on them. With line they are worse, and I understand why, heavier spool in motion. I have some of these reels and with a full spool they won't do it. So reel gurus what's your opinion??

Do you have the correct # of spacers under the cast control knob and under the spool bearing?

I'd send the worse one to a reel repair tech and see what he has to say.

That's not a normal motion for a reel. Stop doing that to your reels. It doesn't tell you anything one way or another.  I'll be happy to look over anything you'd like to send.

I second DVT.  If there isn't an issue during normal use, why do something to a reel that isn't normal? I've seen guys spin the handle on a reel to see how many revolutions it would take for it to stop turning. When would that ever be necessary when fishing? What useful information is derived from that type of 'test'?

I have a habit of while I'm fishing to gather up slack line I just bump the handle forward, if it gathers up all the slack it dosent ratchet, but if there is still slack it ratchets,
